Re: December 2016- Tracking Arctic Air/Christmas Outlook

Nothing will be necessarily reliable this far out regarding how Christmas will feel. It does seem like it won't be as bad as last year, but that is all that can really be said right now. The models are currently in the "what the heck, it went from 10 inches of snow, to a dusting, and back up to...

Re: December 2016- Progressive Pattern/Christmas Outlook

Yowza. If this isn't a strong cold front, I don't know what is. On Saturday evening, temperatures ranging from 26 degrees above average near ArkLATex, to >30 degrees below normal in the panhandle. Definitely has the potential to bring areas at least North of I-10 a freeze on Monday morning. Of cours...

Re: First Freeze of the ~Winter of 2016

Just watch, Houston will be frostless. If not at Bush, then definitely at Hobby. Not so fast my friend. This Winter could be an interesting one. Already has been up here- Negatives possible Saturday night with dangerous wind chills. The month of December is not the only cold month, January and Febr...

Coming back to Houston this weekend. Looks like the weather will be Summer-like there. In contrast, we are currently under a Freeze Warning here :D

While it may look intriguing, not every low in the water is going to become tropical.

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

Well, today is my last day here in Houston. Tomorrow, I leave for school in Nebraska. This is really an awesome forum, and every city deserves something like this. I also think that Houston may have the best meteorologists in the country, and I am proud to say that. I will continue to lurk from time...

Unless daytime heating occurs.
I think that's the main concern right now. More development in the afternoon. We will have to wait and see how this will play out.

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

I thought the ULL was supposed to track along I-10, not into Arkansas?!?!? Guidances had been teeter-tottering between those two solutions for the past couple days. Looks like it's taking the solution which will pose less of a flooding risk for us. At least most people got a healthyamount of rain (...

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

will there be more rain tonight - looks like line weaken and moving southward. We should be able to sleep tonight. Mostly light rain, after the line moves off the coast, and we can handle that. Only concern is that the TX Tech WRF model, which did an okay job with the last line, spawns another one ...

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

Good news folks: SPC no longer has SE Tx in a marginal severe wx risk. I would rather be in the risk area. Badly need the rain. Looks like we arent getting any over here in Rosharon again. We can still get a good amount of rain without being in a severe risk area. Look at the rainfall totals over H...

Out of town and sprinklers on...thus it's a cinch. 8-) 2-4 in with significant variation seems reasonable.... Day by day. http://www.twisterdata.com/data/models/gfs/3/maps/2016/08/13/00/GFS_3_2016081300_F96_PCPIN_96_HR.png Good to see GFS is more realistic now. Had a nearly 10" bullseye over u...

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

Plus, it's been my understanding that one forum member posted a special bulletin on twitter in which NWS Houston is thinking about treating this as a dangerous event. Hey, someone on here actually reads those! :D There is no worrying needed. April 17/18 set a new standard for a flooding crisis, whi...

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

1. What do they mean by "conditions worsening?" What kind of conditions are they looking for? TC-like? Not TC like. They mean an increase in rain and storm coverage. I live in southwest Houston, south of I-10. Is my risk of severe weather less than those locations just mentioned. What the...

Re: August 2016: Significant Pattern Change/Rain Chances Ret

The Weather Prediction Center has moved the slight risk zone for excessive rainfall a tad to the West, to cover more of our CWA. There are a ton of model inconsistencies at the moment so I can see how this would be hard to forecast.

Re: August 2016: Isolated Rain Chances/Watching The N/NE GOM

It's funny how you promised to stop and then you wrote a grand reply. I hate the heat too, but it is a part of living here. Death to this argument. Re: August 2016: Isolated Rain Chances/Watching The N/NE GOM

I also find the premise flawed that "good weather" means warm, rainy and humid, with no real seasons. Have fun with that :( This is how summers need to be: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumbai#Climate I could never stand an average low temp of 62 degrees in January. I need my cold weather...

Re: August 2016: Isolated Rain Chances/Watching The N/NE GOM

You have to remember that the actual air temperatures back in 1962 were in the 112F to 115F range on this date across SE Texas. Let that sink in for a minute. Many of us didn't have Air Conditioning at that time. Just those hot attic fans circulating the steamy air throughout the house. ;) No they ...

Re: August 2016: Isolated Rain Chances/Watching The N/NE GOM

We are in the time of the year where it is normally hot, unpleasant, and dry. The 2014 Summer was a pleasant exception. And by "dry", I do not mean bone dry like 2011. Looking at radar right now, there are a few seabreeze showers South of the 10 freeway. Even on a "dry" Summer da...
