Re: JUNE 2018: Heavy Rainfall Possible Through Wednesday

I had to take one of our pups to her oncologist yesterday afternoon in Sugarland. The skies opened up on the way over there. Took almost an hour to get there. While en route, they kept announcing more and more flash flood warnings on the west side of Houston, with the warning areas popping up furthe...

Amen!!

We got about .10” of the wet stuff today. Storms all around us most of the day, but finally got some rain around lunchtime.

Re: JUNE 2018 will the rains come?

A little rain would be nice! Saw the Big Red Blob heading southwestward last night, even saw some flashes of light, but alas, nothing but leaves fell from the sky over here last night. It was looking like it was going to hold together, too, but I guess it stopped off for a beer on the boardwalk in K...

So far, these look like they are holding together. Any idea if they’ll make it to Brazoria county??

Re: MAY 2018 - Rain Chances/Memorial Day Weekend WX

Looks like there's a line starting to form along a seabreeze that's headed our way. Probably have rain here in northeastern Brazoria County in the next 15-20 mins.

Rain!! Glorious rain!!!

About .20” in northern Brazoria county. We’ll take what we can get. I hear thunder off in the distance. Can’t tell if it’s coming or going yet.

Re: Could there be 2 name storms before JUNE?

I'd think named storms is a bit of a reach, but it seems the conditions in the GOM are at least marginal for supporting some sort of organization. I think the central Atlantic water temps are still a bit cool, and wind shear across the area is still pretty high.

Re: MARCH 2018 - Warm & Humid Returns/Rain Possible Next Wee

Went out to see my bride off to work this morning. It was mid-50's and calm. There was a bit of fog in our back lot and neighbor's pasture. I looked over at the neighbor's back yard, and I could see a band of fog silhouetted against our neighbor's dark brown RV shed. It was about 10' above the groun...

Re: staffing the NWS

One end of the political spectrum hated science in the 70s...and now it's the other side. Funding has been increasingly iffy overall. It won't make a difference until a noreaster or cyclone damages a Senator's home. It's too easy to put other people's lives and livelihood in danger. Well, God's try...

The wind was cold this afternoon if you were sitting in the shade. Otherwise a nice day. Hoping for similar weather with no wind tomorrow so I can fly my drone in sunny weather.

Re: FEBRUARY 2018 - Roller Coaster WX To End February

We’ve had so much rain this season (almost 5” this month alone), it’s still standing in the yard. We have a service mow our front yard. They showed up this afternoon. They promptly stuck two of their riding mowers. They dug them out, and ‘mowed’ most of the rest of the yard with their weed eaters. H...

Re: FEBRUARY 2018 - Active WX Pattern/Heavy Rainfall Possibl

This was not a good week to break in a new puppy. Rainy and waterlogged yard  . See, you should've bought that duck. Or a puddle, er, poodle. Our newest hot laps the yard, looking for the standing water. You can actually see a grin on her face as she rounds the corner, looks over at the ...

Re: FEBRUARY 2018 - Warming Trend/Weekend Stalling Cold Fron

I'm hoping for zero rain for a month. My yard is a bog and I badly need to spray preemergents and fire ant treatment down. Mosquitoes are going to be God awful unless it gets cold again and the rain stops. Same here. The water has receded enough that the puddles are now mud pits. The pups no longer...

Re: Poor forecasting day after frontal passage

I’ve noticed it, too, and it can go either way, and the temps are missed by a good margin either way. While i’ve Been planning lately for lows being ~5 deg F lower than forecast, especially when the winds are forecasted to be light, i’ve been surprised to wake up to temps ~5 deg F HIGHER than foreca...

Re: FEBRUARY 2018 - Strong Arctic Front & Slowly Warming Tem

Aaaand it’s already down to 37... Kind of in the same boat here in northern Brazoria county. We brought the potted plants in, but are relying on the wind to stay up and keep the air mixed enough to keep it from getting really cold for the other plants. Still, though, the dew points are right at fre...

Re: JANUARY 2018 - Warming Trend Begins/Will It Last Long?

A burst of heavy rain at Mom’s today in Pearland. Its been awhile since I have seen puddles form in the old yard and begin to rise onto the patio which brought back memories as a little boy. As a little weather geek, I would judge each rain event on how far the water moved up the patio. Excitement ...
