Re: January 2024

I would be shocked if the Trinity at Liberty reached a record flood. It's a 3.5 mile wide floodplain and I count a total of 3800' of bridging in 12 spots on the railroad and 4300' in 5 spots for the highway. That's a lot of flow. Most of the rise so far, from 7 to the current 25', was in the narrow ...

Re: January 2024

Hello night owls, I see there's a slight tornado risk, along with wind and hail, for much of the Houston area overnight and into the morning. That severe warned cell SW of San Antonio has continued strong for the last couple of hours.

A
fairly robust LLJ at 850mb moves overhead later this morning and
into the afternoon.
That will help. LL Warm J sometimes gets a bad rap.

Re: January 2024

NWS has Metro Houston (Galleria area) at freezing or below from midnight tomorrow night through 12 pm on Tuesday. Then from 7 pm Tuesday until about 10 am Wednesday. We can handle that. For those in this part of the area, can’t imagine much of an issue here unless perhaps driving on freeway overpas...

Re: January 2024

Awesome! Yes, instead of staying flat, temps at the Sugar Land, Hobby, and Hooks stations have jumped to several degrees above predicted highs (47 vs 41 for Sugar Land.) Hopefully that trend continues and we get above freezing for much of the daytime Mon and Tue. Don't need ice issues and power outa...

Note to Channel 11: Please teach your weather gal to stand to the far edge when showing the radar, not in the middle of the screen. I want to see the radar, not her.

Re: January 2024

To clarify for tornado risk, the Storm Prediction Center moved half of Houston into the higher 10% East of Here category. 15% for hail and wind, though the higher 30% risk for winds remains to the east, from central Louisiana to western Florida. And the New Orleans/Baton Rouge radar is down until Ma...

No, that will be east of here
Maybe for you, but the SPC has all of the Houston area, beginning west of Sealy, in the 5% tornado hatch area for tomorrow.

Re: December 2023

Just checked my local NWS, current conditions says Light Rain and 53, yet forecast doesn't show any rain, just mostly cloudy. But if you go to the Hourly graph box it shows a 9% chance of rain. Which fits with the look of the radar, so maybe the policy is to not mention rain chances on the local for...

Re: November 2023

Dang, of all the days for my triumphant return to Houston, this has to spin up.

Coming in from DFW, instead of I-45 think we'll head to Waco or Temple then scoot in behind the mess as it clears eastward.

Hoping nothing damaging develops for you guys today.
