Re: March 2024

Severe threat could be potentially nasty over in LA/MS later this evening. Helicity looks good, shear is very high, and dewpoints should be sufficient. The main limitation could be instability as CAPE values are not really high. However, one does not need high CAPE every time to get tornadoes.

Re: March 2024

Got about 2-3 inches here, finally nice to get a good rain event before the big suck kicks in, in a few months, then we will probably have to hope for a tropical wave/ system to bring us widespread rains I’m not so sure about that. Not every summer here is dry and crazy hot. We do sometimes have de...

Re: March 2024

Back in Mississippi today. I'm liking the overall pattern setting up for us now heading towards April. The Euro and GFS continue to show an active subtropical jet over our area. In fact, they both show a jet streak on top of us setting up for next weekend. System on Thursday looks less impressive, ...

Re: March 2024

Heading back tomorrow to Mississippi. Raining here now. More rain later this weekend is on the way with another system towards the end of next week. Looks like an active pattern is setting up now.

Re: March 2024

Man. That's the classic setup for us missing totally out right there. Same old crap. Nah. Rain chances look good. Everyone should get 1-3” with isolated areas getting more. Yep the rain is coming back.Stay tuned there could be some localized street flooding starting this weekend. gfs_mslp_pcpn_frzn...

Re: March 2024

Both the Euro and GFS now show a solution of an upper-level cutoff low developing towards mid-next week near the Arizona/Mexico border. The Euro has a trough swing down from the Midwest which breaks up the low by Saturday. Meanwhile, the GFS shows a weaker trough over the Midwest which allows the c...

Re: March 2024

Hi everyone! It has been a while. I just finished a set of exams this week and spring break is about to begin so I will be heading back to Texas tomorrow. Looking at models, the setup towards the end of next week looks interesting. Both the GFS and Euro show a cutoff low forming over the Southwest t...

Re: January 2024

Hey everyone! I am back in Starkville for the spring semester now. Today we are having some sleet and snow flurries but also freezing drizzle. Ice is forming so it will be dangerous to be out on the road. I haven't heard anything yet about classes being canceled tomorrow but I sure hope they do beca...

Re: December 2023

Hey everyone! It has been a while, but I am back! The fall semester is over and I am officially 3 semesters away from earning my bachelor's degree in meteorology now! Glad to see that the weather pattern has finally become more progressive for the South. The drought was absolutely horrible for areas...

It's late to the party. Looks like heating was needed to reach convective temperature. Could be interesting later this afternoon as maximum instability takes place.

Re: September 2023

As the Great Lakes trough slips each the SJt has picked up dry air at the mid levels - so we have a cap N of HWY 1*5. From Navasota south should see additional rain. https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/conus_band.php?sat=G16&band=09&length=24 Next week a baby DR establishes itself with zo...

Re: September 2023

Mississippi State just barely escaped defeat yesterday in overtime against Arizona. We play LSU next Saturday at 11. After that, we play South Carolina then Alabama. It's going to be a rough next few weeks.

Re: September 2023

Im seeing signs of potentially our first legit fall front of the year in the day 8-10 range, The CMC is especially bullish, but even the GFS and euro also show a decent cool down, with more troughing setting up over the eastern US, this is beginning to spell the end of our heat ridge pattern for go...

Re: 2023 Hurricane Season Discussion

The ensembles are still very fishy and very few of them have this going towards the U.S. but that’s normal at this range. Lots of times models have storms recurving where 95L is right now only to correct back west with time. I’d still expect several more west and even possibly SW shifts. I think th...

Re: 2023 Hurricane Season Discussion

Steering for likely future Lee is looking very uncertain now. Models were showing more troughing yesterday near the eastern seaboard, but trends now have begun shifting towards ridging. Still unlikely this will end up in the Gulf, but we still should keep an active eye.
