I have to say, the NWS usually gets it right but this was a huge miss this time. Hope Lake Charles NWS gave their region some warning.

I think it’s so damn dry in South Texas we’re seeing the ‘Don Effect’: it’s literally obliterating any attempted development as it tries to wrap near land.

The WPC just tweeted this, they mention rainfall rates could be as high as 3-4" an hour. I just have the feeling this is going to be significantly less than advertised. Seems like there’s not enough convection to bring a lot of rain in. Are they expecting significant development of convection ...

And yet none of the main meteorologists in the area appear the least concerned. Clearly they’re seeing something to dampen their concerns, especially since we’re within 2-3 days of the event.
