Re: February 5-11-11 Winter Weather Advisories Issued

Your 'graupelly' analogy is a good discription. They are small and somewhat 'clumpy'. Montgomery County stuff is just tiny snow grains. Still flying around with a little freezing drizzle. You boys enjoy the spring. See ya'll this summer as Atlantic Basic revs up. From the "not to be frozen muc...

Re: February 5-11-11 Winter Weather Advisories Issued

That is one of the reasons I wanted to get that information out. Even as I type there are still spits of flurries flying, although light and sporadic. Could you actually tell they were snowflakes and now small drops of drizzle floating around? Did you let them land on your coat or a dark surface an...

Re: February 5-11-11 Winter Weather Advisories Issued

Light flurries in NW Harris County at this time. As I look at the latest RUC sounding for your area, it shows a shallow sub-freezing layer (around 1000ft thick) at the surface and a 8000 ft thick layer of well above-freezing air (into the 40s) just above that surface layer. One would think snow wou...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

It would appear that the GFS and NAM have been correct with their predictions that the low center would form well offshore rather than closer to the coast as per the Canadian. As I look at surface obs offshore, I do NOT see any easterly winds bringing moisture into the upper TX coast as there would...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Still, why would they report it if it was going to be a bust? TV personality or not they are not going to forecast something that has bust potential with this much hype with this little of time Are any of them even real degree mets?? I honestly don't know and I'm willing to bet that at least a coup...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

I still find it funny that people call bust even when local mets that get paid to go on tv are showing it still snowing   Those guys are "tv personalities." JMO, put I'd put more stock in what AFM, wxman, and Lindner say before Heller, Norman and KPRC Dude. BTW, Lindner still o...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

I checked the WV loop also, the dry air from our west is encroaching on the area. Where exactly should be watching for devloping snow to our west? It's hard to beleive moisture, let alone snow is on the way looking at that massive swath of dry air encompassing much of central/west texas. just curio...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

I would caution against relying on the HRRR model. Late last night it showed lots of banding in SE Texas this morning that never came to fruition. Still very optimistic about snow accumulation for all of Houston proper. IMHO Only difference I would point out is closeness to event. Of course, you ca...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

What is even more interesting is that HRRR time I was looking at was 12 hour. Look at 15 hour mark!!! Some folks in Montgomery, San Jac, Polk, Walker County are going to get blasted good if that is accurate!!! Putting down between 5 and 7 inches!!!

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

if HRRR is right, 19z shows somebody north of Houston getting 4 to 5 inches if I am reading it right. Talk is the model did pretty well with North Texas storm this week.

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

HRRR is very interesting. Has what appears to be a pretty solid (couple of breaks in it) 3-4 inch swath Austin (and a little ways north) then cutting back due east through northern Montgomery County on the south side. Wonder if that will be the trek of ull as it turns out? Guess we will see!!!

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

ULL still seems to be dropping south and even farther south than the Euro and other models show: http://www.atmo.arizona.edu/products/wximagery/500mbwv.html translation please. It is our "wintry weather" maker and closer it gets more moisture we can get. How much farther south is it trekk...

Re: February Weather. Arctic Blast/Snow/Ice/Winter Storm Wa

don't think I would want to be participating in the nightmare that could be Houston "rush hour" tomorrow evening. I'll take my little desolate corner of NW Montgomery County any day and especially tomorrow!!!!!
