Re: We Need Your Help: Donations

Thought I would visit my old, reliable KHOU weather forums and found that I had missed a lot! My old user ID and password still worked! Just donated what I could to help things along. It's great to see a lot of the old familiar faces here like srain, Andrew, etc. Thank you for the passion y'all show...

Re: August 2017: Tracking Harvey/Coastal Impacts/Inland Floo

Looking at the latest HGX composite radar, it's filled with activity. As I write this, it shows a large area of moderate rainfall directly over my part of Fort Bend county. Yet, it is not even sprinkling. Is this effect something unique to the the interaction of tropical systems and Doppler radar? U...

Re: JUNE 2015 -Heavy Rainfall/INVEST 91L & Watching The Gulf

Looking at this, did they find the center at 0:01Z when they found pressure at about 1002 and winds at about 5 knots? How do we know where they were lat/long at that particular time?

Nice blow-up of convection on the latest satellite. Does the clearing towards the center indicate a center of circulation is forming or is it just an anomaly?

Re: HGX radar going "Dual Pol"

This web page is very helpful, including an FAQ document and info for the radar techies among us:

I think one of the neatest things dual pol can do is detect airborne tornado debris.

Re: KSGR

(Bumping an old post that didn't get a reply) Does anyone know what the story is with current observations at KSGR (Sugar Land Airport)? The observations made here are served to users on the internet for virtually any Fort Bend County location, and most times they are hours and hours old. This has b...

Re: TD 13 Western/Central Gulf of Mexico

In the latest IR loop, the western edge of TD13 appears to move about 150 to the west over the last 7 hours. Do you think this is because the storm is rapidly expanding or is there some meaningful movement there?

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Just got home from work. The husband of a co-worker had just traveled from downtown to SH99 and then south down 99 to our location at Bellaire and SH 99 (Grand Parkway). He said that the overpass at Greenhouse at I-10 was really bad and that he saw 17 accidents between downtown and SH 99. Going sout...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

Well even though it is not going to snow, my kids and I are still going to enjoy our day off tomorrow with movies, popcorn, hot chocolate, and soup oh and of course a NAP!! I would consider being adopted, although my wife might object! Unfortunately, my day will be a normal one: maintaining s...

Hopefully, CenterPoint hasn't been so busy with the rolling blackouts to remember to recall the fleet of repair crews they sent to Oklahoma yesterday to help with their winter weather-related outages!
