Re: December 2015 - Wet & Stormy Christmas Holidays Likely

How much snow will Oklahoma City get? The latest GFS run seems to show 16-18 inches but is it overdoing it?

Re: December 2014: Stormy Saturday Turning Colder Next Week

So do the models have a handle on the situation this week or might it still be colder than expected? especially for the austin area

Re: December 2014: Stormy Saturday Turning Colder Next Week

What are the chances of that arctic air bleeding east into Louisiana? Any thoughts? Highly unlikely. I've seen this pattern many times in my 35 years working as a meteorologist here in Houston. The models had the right idea last week (sub-freezing with precip) and now they've lost the event. The Eu...

Re: June 2014: WET & WILD OR HIGH & DRY?

now correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like most of the rain is heading for western Louisiana. It looks like we may just get the edge of it in southeast Texas Looks to be that way - most of the heavier stuff is in the GOM - off our coast here. Well even if the rain is a bust at least we have some...

wxman, what do you think the situation looks like in NOLA? There doesn't look like as much precip as expected

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso

Models still show NOLA getting at least a half inch of precip but it doesn't look like the precip is there on the radar currently at least. Can someone tell me if more is supposed to form over Louisiana?

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso

Does anyone know what exactly models are picking up on to cause them to trend drier? They are out of phase with the two streams of moisture. We have the south stream of moisture that is mainly a result of the baja disturbance. Next we have a shortwave in the trough axis that is sliding south of roc...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso

models have trended even drier for the whole storm in general. The GFS and the NAM barely show a half inch of precipitation for NOLA

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Warning/Adviso

My initial observations looking out across TX and OK today are that the airmass is not as cold as the models had been predicting a few days ago. This is why the models have trended a little warmer with temps in the past few runs. I'm not too hopeful of seeing any snow in central Houston tomorrow. C...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Winter Storm Watch Issued

Should I trust the NAM that brings New Orleans 3 inches of snow or should I trust the GFS that brings us a half inch of just ice?

The GFS makes this look like more of an ice event in New Orleans. Will that be the case or is it looking like we may get some snow too?

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Wintry Michief Early Next W

Can someone tell me what may be in store for New Orleans? It won't be as cold as in Houston so are we looking at more ice than snow here? Thanks for any input. Current models are indicating more snow for New Orleans than Houston, and up to 3-6" for the MS Coast. Thank you wxman! Will most of t...

Re: January: Strong Arctic Front/Wintry Michief Early Next W

The NAM shows a full blown snowstorm for southern Louisiana! As a student of Tulane University in New Orleans I never thought I would ever be seeing a snow day, but if this played out that would certainly be in the realm of possibilities!

Re: July - Increasing Rain Chances/Tracking 94L

Well convection has deteriorated. This system will almost surely not have any sort of organization. However, this could be good news for rain chances. Maybe one of those large convection blobs we saw in the gulf earlier today will form again tomorrow to give us some rain.

Re: July - Increasing Rain Chances/Tracking 94L

It looks like a lot of convection is consolidating in the gulf right now. Tropical system or not I hope that all moves up into Texas.
