Re: January Weather Discussion. Severe Threat/Cold Blast Com
I know that we are not looking at a Dec. 1989-type outbreak next week, but I am curious, if anyone knows, at what point did we get a grasp of just how cold it was going to be in Houston in terms of the 7 degree temps etc that the system brought down here. Was that in the forecast or were the foreca...

Re: January Weather Discussion. Cold Blast Coming?
So does this mean no more record breaking cold ?? REMEMBER! This was just two model runs, do not treat this as a trend or consistency. Give it a few more runs, at least until tomorrow at this time. Saturday will be judgment day for this system. Also, in set-ups like this, it has been said that this...

Re: January Weather Discussion. Cold Blast Coming?
I thought it didn't look as strong. Looks like two days of barely freezing for us... Reading that right?Candy Cane wrote:The Euro isn't worth posting I'm afraid. That's why the board is so quiet.

Re: January Weather Discussion. Cold Blast Coming?
With the Euro...
My UNTRAINED eyes tell me its a 1048 high over Montana.
Not quite as strong as earlier runs...
Shows the cold air stalling around here, but enough to freeze us for a few days.
12z GFS will be telling.

No night crew it seems. Euro should be rolling around this time.
Myforecast.com is the place to go for all of us wish-casters.
Not sure which model they pull from, but i hope it verifies![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Re: January Weather Discussion. Cold Blast Coming?
00z is quite a bummer. Still shows some cold, just longer to get here.
Let's see what the Euro shows.

Re: January Weather Discussion. What Will The New Year Bring
Well, all of this just means one thing, winter is far from over...
Should have one or two strong shots of cold air, certainly a pattern change for this winter.
Just for kicks, the 18z GFS shows 15 degrees at 384 hours out. LOL.

Re: January Weather Discussion. What Will The New Year Bring
Wx Underground has backed off, now it will be a balmy -85F Wednesday Night in Ojmjakon. WOW.
Looking at the Wiki page for that town, they stay below 0 from late October to late March.

Re: January Weather Discussion. What Will The New Year Bring
Happy New Year everybody.
Talk about cold is right, the low in that village in Russia is -94F!!!!
The record was -90F back in 1933, which is the coldest for any inhabited place on earth.
Wonder if it gets broken.

Re: Christmas/New Years Eve Weather
12z GFS brings us a nice chilly pattern after Christmas, even colder after New Years Day. Hopefully we can see some verification, the GFS has been pretty spot on, even long range this year.

Being that the meteor shower was just a few days ago, meteor activity should be higher than usual...don't doubt that you did indeed see one.

Re: Christmas Weather
00z GFS has the cold needed for winter fun at Christmas, but not the moisture.
Could this be a repeat of 2004? A few wacky runs of snowfall end up proving true 15 days later?
Twice in our lifetime, probably not. Time will tell.

Re: December Weather Discussion. Model Madness & Looking Ahe
ABC13 mentioned the possibility of a few flakes from College Station over to Lake Livingston and to the northeast. You never know. Now unless something truly magical happens, most of us will see just a cold rain. How about some sleet though? Is that at least possible? Not sure how the profiles have ...

Re: December Weather Discussion. Model Madness & Looking Ahe
18z teased us. The 00z shows snow only as far south as southern Arkansas.
Its going to be interesting to see how all the factors come into play.
