Re: January 2024

The 0z Euro looks great! 2-4” widespread for everyone over the next 10 days. Yep, and no freezes nearby in that particular run as well! December 2008 is an example of a wintry (snow) event that I can tolerate — temps in Houston went no lower than 32°F during the night, after daytime highs in the 40s.

Re: January 2024

2023 was an atrocious weather year. 2024 better be way better. The only time that I will side with you and others on this board concerns summer weather — droughts like in 2022 and especially 2023 are useless, I'd much rather have cooler, wetter summers like that from 2021. But freezes are also usel...

Re: December 2023

The real serious cold so far this winter has been over in Asia — record lows (or close to it) over in places like Beijing, Seoul, etc.

Re: December 2023

I’m sure you’re happy about that. Freeze-free IAH is a chance to break a record ... in a good way. Contrast that with the past atrocious August — had the city hit 110°F+, that would have been a bad record to break. And considered that parts of Golden Triangle and Acadiana actually hit that 110°F+ m...

Re: November 2023

Jason does like snow though. Never knew that. I do see where he's coming from, regarding alpine regions and such. Sufficiently cold, dry air aloft can really power things even through much milder surface levels to create good surprises — remember earlier in March, there was some sleet reports even ...

Re: November 2023

I would actually enjoy winter more in Colorado than Texas. 30’s and 40’s, overcast with a cold rain and blustery winds just plain suck. But Colorado would get even colder, more blustery than 30s-40s though. Albeit, the eastern side cold more like the plains with shallow cold outbreaks ... but cold ...

Re: November 2023

That poster doesn’t like exciting weather and wants things to remain normal and near averages. Oh no, I do like "excitement" and deviations from averages ... but only during summer in the form of heavier, more frequent sea-breeze storms, cyclones, and other tropical-type convection. My id...

Re: November 2023

So we want the low further away from the coast? What day are we talking here brwzoriatx probably the sunday-monday timeframe next week, and yes we want the low further off shore because the closer it is to shore, it will be able to bring in more mild air, keeping everything liquid, still a lot of u...

Re: November 2023

Brown patch doesn't kill the roots. It just looks bad. I want a frost or two so the entire lawn goes dormant. I actually just realized that even IAH has yet to record a freeze this year 2023, the lowest so far being 33°F from earlier this Feb. Hobby, which I mentioned in a previous post is, is 37°F...

Re: November 2023

Hobby Airport's lowest temp so far this year is 37°F from earlier this January. So it has a chance of going the entire 2023 without a single frost, depending on what happens the remainder of this November and through December.

Yep. I normally don't care for rain outside of summer ... but after the dry spell, I'm looking forward to any good soakings.

Re: November 2023

Made it to 39 here. The upcoming weekend looks great. Lows in the 60’s, highs in 70’s with southerly flow. You can bet I’ll be outside this weekend, probably grilling something. Update: this morning was the third earliest freeze on record for Conroe, the local ice box. Much of Houston area safe fro...

Exactly. Nothing matters until the exact movement of the PNW upper trough is ascertained.

Re: October 2023

The models have gotten more lenient with the potential cold (as of now). Whereas previously it was the GFS with the coldest overunning, the EURO is now the coldest solution and it's still quite lenient compared to the older GFS outputs. (when accounting for cold bias, the CMC is a milder solution th...

It's not just the CMC, both the ICON and EURO don't show anything focused on Texas (as of now). Not even the ensembles of the GFS show much (as of now).

Re: October 2023

So far, as of last night, only the GFS buys the more focused plunge into TX — other models (even the CMC) propogated further east, with weaker incursion into TX.

Let's see what afternoon models hold.

Re: October 2023

The models still think -PDO is likely for winter ... except that it's taken a hard weakening trend lately.
