I am expecting TS Irene very soon and waiting for NHC to issue the first advisory. Recon has found TS force winds.

Re: Invest 97L: East Of The Caribbean Islands

I agree with srainhoutx. Models have shifted slightly W today but it all depends on the ridge. Once we get a true center the models will better data input. Something to watch over the next several days.

Re: Invest 97L: Central Atlantic

97L will be watched over the next week. The ridge is very strong currently which will keep the Upper TX Coast protected. We need rain but not a hurricane.

Re: Invest 98L Eastern Atlantic

Invest 98L is just rolling off the African Coast. NHC has it at 30% chance of tropical cyclone development. This could be a signifcant CV system down the road.

Joe Bastardi is Fired Up

The Science Guy at Chron.com posted an excerpt of Joe B on his blog http://blog.chron.com/sciguy/2011/08/heat-watch-when-might-the-hot-streak-break-and-whats-that-i-see-in-the-tropics/ Joe's take: While I am supposed to stay restrained about such things my excitement is similar to the day after Than...

Re: August Weather Discussion

I cant believe several OK locations are already 106F at 12:15PM!!! We will have our own 100 degree temps but thankfully nothing that high.....would not be surprise to see 112F in OK today.

Re: GOM Homebrew end of next week?

I have not looked to see if any models pick this up yet. It will be interesting to read more AFDs this afternoon to see if anything else is mentioned about it. May turn out to be nothing but worth noting...the GOM is very warm and a low under the ridge could turn interesting.

Re: ATL: Invest 90L - GOM Bound?

Humberto is easily forgotten by the public. It only takes 1 day for a TW to become a CAT 1 hurricane depending on upper level conditions. The GOM is very warm this summer. I will never forget seeing Humberto come to life with amazing speed. Seeing a weak tropical storm with an eyewall on radar was m...
