Re: June 2017: Rain Chances Returns/Watching The Tropics

I mean no disrespect or throwing "shade" on HGX but I don't understand how they can continue to be so dismissive of the possibility of this potential system impacting South and Southeast Texas. Caution and patience are certainly the guidance key words here so that folks don't freak out abo...

Re: January 2017 - Progressive Pattern/Turning Seasonably Co

Quite the "winter" day here in Austin. For the sixth time this "winter," we set a new high temperature record. Today's marks of 82 at ABIA and 81 at Camp Mabry were easily encompassed. At 4 pm, we had 85 at ABIA and 83 at Mabry. This wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have to suffer...

Re: January 2017 - Major Wind Event Sunday Behind Pacific Fr

10" of rain this month ... wow!

Heck, we feel fortunate over here in Austin because we've had about 4 1/2" of rain this month.

Re: January 2017 -Warm & Damp WX/Winter Returns Late Month

Looks like several possible periods of severe weather today in south central Texas as a discrete supercell threat exists for later this afternoon and then the storm line/mesoscale complex threat late tonight.

Interesting weather day ahead.

Re: January 2017 -Houston Marathon Outlook/Warm/Stormy

They tell me it is winter. The calendar says January 12. The weather says "spring."

Here in Austin today, we recorded record high temperatures at both the airport (81) and Camp Mabry (79). The previous record came in 2000.

Re: January 2017 - Arctic Cold Front/Hard Freeze Warning

Got down to 21.4 degrees at mi casa in SW Austin. Travis County lows got as low as 12 degrees in one rural spot.

Coldest morning since February 2011.

Re: January 2017 - Friday's Arctic Cold Front & Rain Chances

Temps here in the Austin area are colder than predicted. Today's high may not exceed freezing.

Patchy freezing precip reported in San Marcos, San Antonio, and Bastrop County. Some icy bridges in these areas too. Not much to speak of here in the Austin metro area as of 7 am.

Re: January 2017 - Late Week Cold Front & Rain Chances

Friday looks to be a close call here in the Austin area IF the Euro is right. It develops some rather robust drizzle as overrunning takes hold in the skies above. Two nights ago the 0z Euro showed this as did yesterday's 12z albeit a bit lighter on QPF. Surface temps right now appear to be a few deg...

Re: January 2017 - Severe WX Threat/Late Week Cold

Here in the general Austin metro area, we had some strong storms but nothing severe around 4-5 am. Rainfall totals averaged about a half inch in Travis County. There was some small hail reported and a few wind gusts near 40-45 mph. And a lot of cloud-to-ground lightning. With the Pacific front passi...

Re: January 2017 - Severe WX Threat/Late Week Cold

The severe wx threat late tonight for south central Texas looks decent. Large hail and maybe some isolated higher winds appear to be the most likely threats. Thankfully the storms are forecast to move through rather quickly and that should diminish a flash flood threat. Looks to move through the gen...

Re: January 2017 - Early January/Tracking Arctic Cold

Interesting comments this afternoon out of the NWS office in New Braunfels, re: next week, precip types, etc.: On Wednesday, things will begin to quickly change as arctic air once again pours into the southern plains. This has been a pretty typical La Nina winter so far for South-Central Texas with ...

Re: January 2017 - Early January/Tracking Arctic Cold

The cold air is coming and the question now is HOW cold ... and for us in south central and southeast Texas, more questions on precip and precip types. At the least, plants/pipes/pets/people protection in about a week's time appears to be on the menu.

Re: December 2016- End Of Year Forecast

The unseasonable warmth continues. Here in Austin we've blown today's record high of 77 out of the water. It's 84 at the airport and 79 at Camp Mabry at 2 pm. Temps may go higher. This will be the second day in the last week where we've set new record high temps.

Re: January 2017 - Early January/Tracking Arctic Cold

Next week is shaping up to be fascinating and a great opportunity for many of us to learn more about weather in Texas, namely winter weather. We're going to have an Arctic airmass oozing southward into the state in what will probably be a shallow layer. As some have said in this forum in the last fe...

Re: December 2016- End Of Year Forecast

Yesterday was the warmest Christmas Day in Austin since 1964. We topped out at 80 degrees. This morning we tied a record from last year for warmest minimum temp at Camp Mabry (KATT) at 70 degrees. I'm getting tired of these WARM weather benchmarks. :(
