Re: September 2021: Hurricane Nicholas
Well after Harvey hit that winter we had snow....soooooooo...maybe after nick we will have...do I dare say it? Ha. I was just about to post about this. Fingers crossed for a winter treat now that Nicholas said hello. ;) Looks like you got a good hit down near Freeport last night, Kingwood. Hope the...

Re: September 2021: TS Nicholas NW Gulf Threat
When will you know if these numbers verify? I'd like to see a dominant low-level circulation develop that we can track. I see a vigorous eddy that could be it. Further NW than where NHC has it and did line up with the Euro a bit better as far as position. Euro has been more of the outlier on the ex...

Re: September 2021: TS Nicholas NW Gulf Threat
Euro showing 60 inches in Fayette County... ok.
15-20 inches to our west/southwest counties. 5-12 inches around Houston with the lower amounts being further east you are (opposite of GFS).

Re: September 2021: Watching the Western Gulf
I think with this run, we can officially throw the GFS in the trash can for this system at least, 981mb is near cat 2 strength and I really just think the GFS is overdoing this system, even the 00z ICON is more in line with the Euro solution GFS showing a 981mb storm near TX/MX border is very reaso...

Re: September 2021: Watching the Western Gulf
Based on the latest TWO I'd guess that even if recon doesn't find a classifiable system later this morning they will at least initiate PTC advisories at 4. Agree, quite a bit of 850mb vorticity and even noted 500mb. Likely will have some good mid-level rotation by sunrise once fully emerged over Bo...

Re: July 2021
Plausible scenario. And as a meteorologist, I understand the excitement of extreme events. 15-year old me was excited when Hurricane Ike was making aim for Galveston... 29-year old me today would have much more reservations. HRRR oftentimes can sniff out these nocturnal tropical feeder bands...

Re: July 2021
I think what happened is some people were trying to wishcast the heaviest rains towards Houston for some reason, but when it didn’t happen they called it a bust. Plausible scenario. And as a meteorologist, I understand the excitement of extreme events. 15-year old me was excited when Hurricane Ike ...

Re: July 2021
I'm perplexed reading comments saying how this event was a bust. Outside of the HRRR (which hasn't had the greatest reputation IMO with these cutoff and meso lows the last few months) showing 12-16" overnight for someone, it has mainly totaled what was forecasted several days in advance. No nee...

Re: MARCH 2021
It looks like that storm turned into a pretty good squall. I thought that pretty much ended the Tornado threat once the squall hits. Is something coming in behind it for them? Doesn't eliminate the tornado threat, but reduces it. Can still get tornadoes embedded within the squall line out ahead of ...

Re: MARCH 2021
The WMO (World Meteorological Organization) Hurricane Committee has retired Dorian from 2019 and Laura, Eta and Iota (2020) from the rotating list of Atlantic names due to the damage and death associated with them. Also interesting of note in the article, "It also decided that the Greek alphabe...

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
Finally getting a transition to more snow than sleet here in Katy.
Also have been without power now for 2 hours. Went out right at 2:15am. Temp inside is 60° and outside temp is 15°.

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
Judging by the correlation coefficient on radarscope, looks like everything to the left of the blue line is all snow. I feel confident this will all end in snow and give at least most of us an inch. I agree though, 19° here with heavy sleet is quite annoying.

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
Sky lit up in blue as a transformer blew and power went out across the street from me. Highway 99 pitch black and all the stores along the feeder. Wind is howling through my doors and windows are just getting pelted with sleet. If I was in a coma and I was just waking up in my bed, I'd think it was ...

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
Not snowing here in Katy, yet. But absolutely coming down in sheets with sleet. By far the heaviest sleet I've ever seen. Had a heavy sleet event in Oklahoma when I lived up there back in 2013, but nothing like this.

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
Fascinating to watch the snow wall out west heading in our direction. What I have circled in blue under the mesoscale discussion is what I'm watching. Currently all snow and will be interesting to see if the intensity of it holds as it pushes ENE. If you have radarscope, you can play it from the KEW...

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
Austin has quickly fallen into teens and CLL is nearing 20°. Temps will rapidly fall tonight as the trough moves through around 2am here in SETX. This is going to be a one-two punch as the heaviest sleet/snow will begin falling between 2-6am.

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
The transition from pink to the gray/bluish (wind chill warnings) will begin encompassing much of TX next 24 hours. Technically much of the warnings are already there, but winter storm warnings are overshadowing them right now. Two rare warnings to see from the northern to southern border. www.png

Re: February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Winter Storm Warning ⚠️
Reports that the Grand Parkway is closed at Katy Freeway because of ice on the road. I can see 99 & I-10 out from my balcony and there are emergency lights along 99. It looks like they have the flyovers closed and not the freeway itself since I can still see cars traveling both north and southbo...
