A Party On The Top (Off Topic)

Last night, I went to a party at the top of a hotel. It was a formal cocktail party with dancing. Got a good view of downtown and the weather is nice. I donned on a suit and tie and partied the night away. Lot of beautiful people. I also got to see friends as well. Had a good time. To my surprise ma...

Re: More Cold Air On The Way In Mid/Late February For TX/OK/LA?

Been in San Fran last couple of days on business. ON the way all I saw was snow. Any shot next week will not modify as much which has me somewhat concerned. Mostly for whats left of the tropical plants.... BTW- This is the most active El Nino I think I have ever witnessed. How many GOM lows have we...

Weather Probabilities In Houston

Wonder what is the probability that Houston sees snow, single digit temperatures, and hurricanes. I know nature does not care for probabilities and statistics. However, if spread out, it can give us a good idea how often it happens. Let's start with snow in Houston, which is on everyone's mind. Mind...

Re: More cold air on the way next week!?

I believe it was 1994, 99ºF one day, and one week later, ice. I was so hoping for the one and only 100ºF day in AUS February history. I saw snow accumulate slushily on the newly elevated section of highway (was it 183) in December 1996. I have never seen snow accumulate on any road surface in HOU. ...

Re: More cold air on the way next week!?

My birthday is March 1st, and a snow day would be the best present a boy ever had! http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/12/images/gfs_pcp_384m.gif That day 15 panel of the GFS has been known to be accurate once every decade or two. It will be right this time. ;)

Re: Cold weather has arrived with more to come?...

Statistically, Houston sees >1 inches of snow about on average every 8 (8.2 to be exact) years going back to 1895. So, the probability of seeing two >1 inch snowfall in one winter is on average every 64 years, three >1 inch snowfall in one winter is on average every 512 years. The only winter where ...

Re: Houston Weather Rewind

A look back at 1976. It was the bicentennial for America. 1976 is the coolest year in Houston ever recorded. January-A cooler start for the bicentennial year. Overall, cooler and drier than average. February-Same as January in terms of rainfall total. However, it much warmer than average. Severe thu...

You're probably seeing drizzle. The type of snow developing across Texas is producing HUGE flakes, not tiny ice crystals more common in colder air. If it starts snowing, you'll know it.
I wish for snow, not the heavy one like in DC. Makes it more interesting.

Re: Cold weather on the way next week maybe wintry precip too!?

I had predicted 31-24 Saints. Now, I'll work a miracle for sleetstorm. I'll see if I can get him some sleet for next Friday morning. ;-) If the Saints can win the superbowl, then frozen precip can reach Houston. Models should now have a pretty good handle on things. I'll check in tomorrow after the...

What a perfect day. Weeks after clouds and rain, the Sun came out finally. No, it was not a UFO full of Prawns (from the movie District 9). It was a party for a good cause. Got see old friends and meet many new people. The party was full of beautiful people. Quite crowded.  8-) So...
