They were getting light sleet earlier, but I'm not sure about now.
What's it doing on campus right now? Did enough sleet fall earlier to accumulate at all?

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Warning

I don't understand how I haven't seen any sleet yet. Areas to my south, north, west, and east have all been getting some. Even a few miles away from me has. When will I?

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Warning

Just saw a comparison sounding from the 00z University of Houston's and models. The actual sounding has more of a sub-freezing area aloft than the Rapid Update Cycle model thinks there is, and the freezing level is closer to the surface than the RUC thinks. This increases the chance of sleet vs. fr...

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Warning

Andrew reports heavy sleet in College Station Still plain old moderate rain here, but I am a couple miles southeast of the university. On campus currently. A lot of it coming down. I haven't seen any sleet yet and I'm a few miles east of campus. Weird how I haven't seen any yet and you're getting a...

Re: January: Arctic Front Thursday & Winter Storm Warning

Heavy IP at HWY 6 and OSR Jeff, when is the changeover expected to occur in CLL? Still 35 and just rain here. Haven't seen any sleet yet. It is going to bounce all around all night between ZR/IP/SN You don't think there will be a changeover to mainly sleet/snow? I am hoping for at least .50 inch of...

Re: December: Tracking Arctic Outbreak II. 12/6-9/2013

Hey all, is there anywhere to find a future radar forecast, hourly, for Thursday? We have a parade that night and need to play it by ear, need to finish the float in the afternoon, and get the kids on board. parade starts at 7. wondering exactly how much rain we will face and if it will be cold for...

Re: NOVEMBER: Tracking An Arctic Cold Front

There is no point to miserably uncomfortable cold, bare trees, brown lawns, and short days unless it snows, and people who like being uncomfortable, there is always Minnesota. JMHO. I'll accept cold for a day or two for snow/ice... That's how I feel Ed! I just always want precipitation, any kind is...

Re: Regional Disco - March - Spring Storm 9th-11th?

Thanks srain. It seems like every GFS run over the past several days has shown a different scenario for our next system this weekend. Hopefully the recon data helps the models to paint a wetter picture across Texas!

Howdy! I am currently a fourth year meteorology major at Texas A&M University and I hope to get an internship in Houston this summer. I am interested in making forecasts and writing weather discussions for private companies or the NWS. I have a good analytical background from school as well as a...

Re: Tropical Storm Ernesto: Nearing The Central Caribbean

Well the 0z GFS was depressing. Barely makes it back into the BOC before landfalling probably as a weak Tropical Storm near Veracruz. I'm starting to think we won't get a drop of rain from Ernesto. :(

Re: Tropical Storm Ernesto: Nearing The Central Caribbean

Globals, especially GFS and Euro, have been handling the very slow pace of strengthening well. I suspect 18Z GFS forecast may be close to what happens. I agree. I don't think the 00z models are going to shift farther south though. I am thinking they will follow close to the eventual landfall of the...

Re: March 2012- In Like a Lamb?

I really hope this dry trend doesn't keep up. GFS was insistent in developing a significant rain maker between the 8th and 10th, but the past two runs have backed off on that as well. Anyone have any positive information? The GFS has been having some difficulty lately dealing with all of the...

Re: February: Quiet WX Pattern Return This Week. Warm Days A

What an absolutely gorgeous day out, and these type of days have been extremely few and far between since January. I hope everyone can get out and enjoy the sunshine and be thankful that those forecasts of a 'hot and dry winter' have failed miserably and that we have made a remarkable recovery in o...
