Light to moderate rain continues here in Austin ... started raining around 6 p.m. last night. So far, a little more than 2" in the ol' rain bucket in SW Austin. Radar continues to show more rain coming. Fortunately some of this rain also fell in the Hill Country. Boy do we need it!

Latest SREF (9z) shows a mix of freezing rain and sleet for Austin from early Saturday morning until at least Saturday evening. The run ends at 6 p.m. where it is still coming down.

Paul, ERCOT has publicly stated that it would have enough power this winter to avoid what happened last January and back in 2012. They also promised the Legislature they would avoid such an outcome this winter. So I think you'll be fine.

Folks need to take this seriously and ensure all external pipes and faucets are wrapped. A large portion of Texas will see below to well below freezing temperatures several nights/early mornings. This will be the coldest airmass of the season.

The City of Austin has cancelled its planned New Years Eve celebration due to predicted inclement weather. The fireworks are supposed to be re-scheduled. As it is per the current forecast, it'll be very cold and wet and breezy ... not the best conditions for folks to be outside in.
