Re: OCTOBER: Cooler/Shower Chances. 'Blue Norther' Late Mont

Great article srain... the 'blue black' cloud is exactly how my grandfather described it. He also told me about several close calls with tornadoes as a boy on the farm in Nebraska. Thanks for posting this and Cheers!

Re: OCTOBER: Cooler/Shower Chances. 'Blue Norther' Late Mont

I see the GFS and Canadian are suggesting that 'Blue Norther' may blow in just in time for Halloween. Question... my grandfather used to describe a blue norther (he grew up in Nebraska) as the tinted blue dark clouds rolling in with a strong winter storm. I always thought (growing up in Houston of c...

I was thinking the exact same thing. And I see a new cell near Westfield in north Harris county.

Re: Tropical Storm Andrea: Florida & NE Gulf Threat

I'm always glad when the first storm of the season misses us. However, this is exactly what Lake Travis needs to fill it back up. Hey Brooks, nice call on them upgrading/naming the storm this afternoon. I thought they might hold off.

Re: May: Memorial Day Forecast

Well, that line of storms out west is slowing and weakening as it tries to move east. May not make it here at all but I've not given up just yet. Strong storm moving toward Livingston now. I'm surprised we have not had more scattered storms pop up in the heat this afternoon. I saw some nice cu tower...

Re: May: Showers/Storms Mid Week.

We need and count on at least some rainfall from a tropical system each year to keep us out of drought and to keep lake Travis and the Edwards aquifer charged. Many have seen this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHSnKX0eVNQ It illustrates how little (closer to none) rainfall Texas got from last y...

Re: April - Wet month ahead?

From the looks of that line of storms near San Antonio now, I'd say you have a 50/50 chance of getting some rain in Jackson/Victoria counties later this afternoon. Good luck, I know you farmers need the rain down there.

Re: April - Wet month ahead?

Number of lightning strikes is slowly decreasing but the storms are still holding together. Ft Bend and Brazoria look to get the worst of it (best of the rain!). That being said I'm seeing some new cells trying to fire ahead of the line in Harris and Braz counties now.

Re: February - Cold Canadian Air Outbreak Mid Month?

Our 'Microcast' model agrees. Rain begins in the morning, heavier stuff out west counties... then moves across se Texas taking most of the afternoon and evening. 2"-3" totals likely with this...

Re: Longtime Houston TV Weatherman Doug Brown Passes

Watched Doug all the time growing up here in Houston. Of course I also watched him as a colleague as we both worked the morning shift for years together. A good man who will be missed. Cheers Doug!

Thanks very much. I've been dreaming of this since watching Doug Johnson when I was a kid here in Houston. Looking forward to all the weather, and hopefully some snow now and then, to come. Cheers all!

Re: December-Tracking The Christmas Winter Storm

Not seeing much re development of storms to the southwest of the big storms in Walker Polk San Jacinto counties. Things may settle down until the upper level low and jet streak get closer along with surface cold front later in the day.

Re: December Weather - What can we expect?

Hi Arizona- I enjoy reading your posts. You bring up the subject of 'why' the models are so wrong and flip flop and the frustration that I'm sure many other people feel about the difficulties in long range, and sometimes very short range forecasting. The simple answer is that we do not yet completel...

Re: November: Nice Thanksgiving With Arctic Airmass Lurking?

There are two majic numbers when it comes to Houston weather and me. Below 57f the mosquitos will not bite, and below 52f your body does not have to waste energy cooling itself while you run allowing you to set your best time. And then of course there's the majic of 32f. Cheers!

Re: Hurricane Isaac: TS Watch Extended To E Of High Island

WXman666 - Dr. Frank feels the hurricane center should have upgraded the storm to 'hurricane' status much sooner. Flight level winds were 80kts and pressures 977 but max surface winds were only 71mph so they held off until late yesterday morning. Docs problem with this is that people on the coast wh...

Re: Hurricane Isaac: TS Watch Extended To E Of High Island

'Like a cool Dr Pepper after a great run'... INDEED! If you watched us this morning, Dr. Frank and I had about a 3 minute, relaxed discussion about the storm and how the Hurricane center handled the slow upgrade to 'hurricane' status. It's not often you get someone who can be himself on live tv and ...

Re: Hurricane Isaac: TS Watch Extended To E Of High Island

Hi gang- I had a great talk with Dr. Frank both on and off the air this morning. Basically he feels the ridge to the north is/will slow the storm. As the ridge to the north moves east Isaac will eventually move northwest around the western edge of the ridge. Yesterdays 00Z GFS is close to his idea o...
