Re: More Cold Air On The Way In Mid/Late February For TX/OK/LA?

I am reminded of srain's statement that the EC has been first in "verification" this winter. So if history is any guide, hopefully at this point in time we can take the GFS forecast models for next week for what they are worth (not much) and place our confidence in the colder and wetter E...

Re: More Cold Air On The Way In Mid/Late February For TX/OK/LA?

If the forecast holds, this would be interesting! Thanks wxdata. Someone in another forum commented on this image, saying that it indicates the possibility of wintry precip developing NORTH of the low along the Texas coast, which would leave our area out of the fun. In your opinion, is that an accu...

Re: More Cold Air On The Way In Mid/Late February For TX/OK/LA?

FYI--Channel 13 just mentioned arctic air "fresh from Siberia" making its way south next week all the way into Texas (to which he added, 'we'll see how far south'), with potential record setting lows across much of the US.

Can someone explain what the latest UKMET model is showing for Texas (especially for our area) early-mid next week? This seems to have generated some interest from Texans in other forums...

Re: More Cold Air On The Way In Mid/Late February For TX/OK/LA?

If late next week doesn't bring us anything beyond cold rain, perhaps the potential reinforcing shots of colder air/stormy pattern that others have been discussing will do the trick in the week(s) that follow...

Re: Cold weather has arrived with more to come?...

Okay I just went outside and theres a steady rain with the occasional flurry wen i look up towards the street light but it doesnt even make it all the way down to the concrete Yep. I am pretty sure this is what I saw near the Galleria. It definitely wasn't just rain the way it was floating/blowing ...

Re: Cold weather has arrived with more to come?...

I can't make it out for sure but it appears that there might be some small flakes (more like particle size) blowing in the wind in metro Houston near the Galleria. Anyone else see this? You're probably seeing drizzle. The type of snow developing across Texas is producing HUGE flakes, not tiny ice c...

Must be a false alarm. I can't imagine that we would have it down here if you all up north did not.

Re: Cold weather has arrived with cold rain on the way...

Congratulations to the folks further north toward the Dallas area. It looks like you are in store for some nice accumulations later today/tonight. They should be getting what was forecast for the Dec. 4 event in Houston: 3-5 inches widespread with some areas receiving more. The difference mainly be...

Re: Cold weather has arrived with cold rain on the way...

The 12z shows the freezing line clearing the Houston area for hours 114-168. Unfortunately, I don't see that there is precip indicated anywhere nearby, at least in this model and in this run. Anyone seeing indications from other models/sources that they could be off regarding chances for precip dur...

Re: Cold weather has arrived with cold rain on the way...

Thank you for the feedback srain and don. I read on another forum that some of the GFS ensembles appear to be in agreement with the Canadian run. At this point, I will keep my expectations quite low for anything interesting this week. Of course, I am always happy to see expectations surpassed. ;)

Thank you for posting the Canadian model for Friday, srain. Would you mind giving a brief summary of the forecast for the city of Houston based on this model, were it to verify?

Re: Cold weather on the way next week maybe wintry precip too!?

Ch. 13 currently has Houston at 34 overnight on Wednesday. With the recent temperature busts, hopefully the models are still undercutting the system's impact. For example, is the GFS really factoring in the existing and forecasted snow cover to our north--shouldn't there still be enough to impact mo...

Re: Cold weather on the way next week maybe wintry precip too!?

Correct me if I am wrong, but according to the latest GFS run, it looks like the ice/rain line appears to be stubbornly hovering just north of metro Houston late next week, with the snow line even further north. The good news is that we are still a ways out, and while those lines could move further ...
