Average high for December/January in Houston is 62. High of 50 in late October is a real cold front.

Re: October 2023

The front is currently along a La Grange to Navasota line, pushing SE. Movement is steady - maybe 20 mph. ROPA should arrive in Houston around 7-8 pm? College Station is about 80 miles from metro Houston, so it should be here within 4 hours of having moved through College Station if it’s moving at ...

Re: 2023 Hurricane Season Discussion

Im not sure that yellow lemonade is the spot to watch near the antilles, seems like the one models are picking up on is a CAG setup, will see if the NHC highlights it soon since models and ensembles are moving up development inside of 192-216 hours, will see about that one, could be a gulf threat o...

Heating up. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/xgtwo/two_atl_7d0.png With the exception of the orange area in the Gulf, nothing that will impact the United States, per ABC 13… “All of these would track to the northwest with no threat to land.“ https://abc13.com/hurricane-season-tropical-weather-news-updates/...

Re: December 2022

These showers have some pretty heavy rain in them. Yes - we have a heavy line of showers moving through now. Lower dewpoints and more seasonable temps behind it. Forecasted high tomorrow is about 8 degrees F higher than the average, and the low is about 18 degrees higher than normal. Not exactly se...

Re: December 2022

Absolutely disgusting weather. NWS has the city hitting 80F today, 79 on New Years, and 78 on Jan. 2. I’ve lived here for 45 years, and there is absolutely nothing normal about us being in the 80s/near 80 for so many days in December and into January. Not saying it’s never happened, but it’s definit...

Thank you. At least in the city of Houston, we’ll be well above seasonal temps, with at least four days reaching 74-75 F, which is 10+ degrees warmer than the average high this time of year.

Re: December 2022

ERCOT made an emergency request yesterday regarding our power situation, a request that ERCOT says “it does not take lightly.” There is unfinished business with regard to the reliability of our grid, but if we can make it through this winter the Public Utilities Commission and Texas Legislature are ...

00z GEFS guidance, that is pretty decent support, not all members agree the frontal passage may be dry, especially for our area, about 7-9 members have snow in our area Seems kind of messed up. Really wouldn’t expect freezing rain in Houston as depicted in those maps with forecasted temps in the 20...

Re: December 2022

Models don’t pick up on winter weather events down here till we get into range of the Hi-res models. Never seen a global model pick up on a winter weather event for us at this range and show it consistently all the way up to the event. If something is there the Hi-res models should start to pick up...

Re: December 2022

What is the 12z ICON showing for precip in the Houston area? Suppression would be way too strong the first couple days after that strong of a front for precipitation. We could however still get some action on the 3rd or 4th day after that. The 12z and 0z ICON only go out to 180 hours. That wouldn’t...
