Re: ATL: Invest 90L - Texas Hurricane Threat?

Cancun radar appears to depict a small LLCC forming just off northeast tip of the coast. A little more convection in this area than there was earlier this morning.

Re: May Weather Discussions. Rain/Storm Chances Increasing!

Farther distance, but quicker driving, and way more scenic. There is a barn that I always see Aggie girls stopped at getting their pictures taken. Yes that's quite a popular landmark. Will always have the class year of the graduating seniors painted on it. Hence, it's almost tradition for the senio...

Re: May Weather Discussions. Rain/Storm Chances Increasing!

So the biggest hindrance to widespread convection would be lack of moisture in the mid levels and not necessarily cap strength?

Re: May Weather Discussions. Rain/Storm Chances Increasing!

Props to both U of H and A&M their efforts. Launching balloons on the A&M golf course was one of the highlights of my undergrad. Got a launch off one afternoon an hour or so before an MCS rolled though BCS. Definitely valuable getting data like that especially on a day like today with uncert...

Re: Internship available?

As wxman57 stated, you can't really learn to 'forecast' in school. Most met programs are going to be heavy on the math and dynamics.....that's just the nature of the degree. The math is intense no doubt, but the actual math you do in your met courses isn't so bad. The program at A&M is somewhat ...

Re: February 1-5, 2011 Arctic Blast/Winter Storm Discussion

wxman--- was it moist enough in the snow production layer to produce ice crystals? Several of the model soundings I looked at last night (particularly the RUC) were pretty dry above 600mb while saturated in the lowest few thousand feet. Obviously, the warmer layer aloft was a factor, but I'm curious...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

agreed with what has been said. upper low tracking to the east with returns now evident west of San Antonio and further west nearer the core of the upper low. still think we see a transition to sleet/snow as the upper low approaches and cools the column. Going to be a nasty commute for sure.

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

I think most people are in agreement that it will snow. Tricky part is exactly how much moisture will be available. Lift will certainly be there. As wxman pointed out would have been nice to see the surface trough form closer to the coast. We shall see. I'm still hopeful that my grass will be covere...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

There are no soundings between Corpus Christi and Lake Charles, only model estimates of soundings. That's what makes it so difficult here. All the models appear to have a different idea what's happening aloft CURRENTLY, so how can they predict what will happen very well? I've never understood why H...

Re: February Weather. Snow/Sleet/Ice/Winter Storm Warning

I agree in that the main show should kick off in the overnight hours.....as the operational guidance indicated all along it was going to be too try for anything today. Concerned with overall moisture values.....but hard to ignore deep plume of moisture streaming in off the Pacific. Moisture should b...

18Z NAM forecast sounding for KSGR appears to be much more saturated in the dendritic growth zone than I've seen in previous runs....with a slight warm nose evident at around 10000 feet.

Re: OT: Texas A&M To Set World Record!

It was an unbelievable atmosphere to be a part of. I'm still without a voice :D The roughing the passer penalty was a BS call, but Pelini was just asking the refs to throw a flag every chance they got. Pelini lost his composure, and that was reflected in the way his team played. Real class act berat...

Re: Gulf Of Mexico Development?

Didn't humberto spin off an old frontal boundary? I remember going to bed that night with just a disorganized mess in the gulf......by the next afternoon when I went to tropical class it was a full fledged tropical cyclone. Pretty impressive intensification in such a short period of time.
