I am praying those with disabilities and other needs are safe or got to safety this evening after this historic flood.

I cant tell you how many frantic calls I received of those who were left in homes that were flooding & they were electricity dependent or wheelchair bound.

Although the Mayor said he didn't want 6.5 million on the road, I have been educating the disabled since 2007 the following

YOU know your disability better than anyone else.
YOU know what you need to stay safe & what you need to try and have somewhat of an independent lifestyle in an emergency.
YOU know what you need before a Mayor, A Judge, Your neighbor, a weather man.
YOU should plan ahead to GET OUT.
Its YOUR responsibility

I hope this message which I have been preaching for a very long time will ring a bell for you.
There will be a next time.

I pray you safe.

Applying for FEMA Disaster Assistance

This is an update to the earlier guidance on applying for FEMA assistance.

Registering online, at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, is the quickest way to register for FEMA assistance since the event will last several days and the full scope of damages may not be immediately evident.

If you are unable to access the internet, you can also call 1-800-621-3362.

Install the FEMA App, available for Apple, Android, and Blackberry mobile devices

When you register for disaster assistance either online or by phone, you will need the following to complete your application:

•Social Security number
•Address of the location where the damage occurred (pre-disaster address)
•Current mailing address
•Current telephone number
•Insurance information
•Total household annual income
•Routing and account number for your checking or savings account (this allows FEMA to directly transfer disaster assistance funds into your bank account).
•A description of your disaster-caused damage and losses

** If you are a person with a disability, there are two specific questions you must respond "yes" to in order to provide disability related details get FEMA assistance that will fit your needs. See the information below for the specific text of the questions.

Disaster Related Losses:

· Did you, your co-applicant, or any dependents have help or support doing things like walking, seeing, hearing, or taking care of yourself before the disaster and have you lost that help or support because of the disaster?

Disaster Related Expenses:

· Have you incurred uninsured or under-insured expenses as a direct result of the disaster; do you have MEDICAL expenses as a result of the disaster; do you have DENTAL expenses as a result of the disaster; do you have FUNERAL expenses as a result of the disaster

Be as descriptive as possible in your responses.

Disaster assistance applicants, who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.

It has been a devastating summer for us - I know the disability community took quite a hit with Harvey.
Some of you are still displaced - and children with special needs have been forced to find new schools.
Some organizations have been wonderful and stepped up...we definitely know who to depend on...

I know there are issues still with housing...accessible housing is an issue.

Many people are working on these issues and we have learned so much....

I want to take the time to wish you a Blessed Holiday Season and lets pray no hurricanes this 2018.
