Rainfall Record By Duration
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oh/hdsc/record_ ... ecords.htm

One is set in Texas, which had 22 inches of rain in less than 3 hours. The record rainfall in Muduocaidang, Nei Monggol, China is actually in August 1975 during the Banqiao Dam failure from heavy rains from combination of the remnant of Super Typhoon Nina and cold front. The disaster claimed 175,000 lives. This type of rainfall, which dumped 55 inches in 10 hours would cause any dam to fail. If this happened over Houston, the whole area would be flooded and the damage would catastrophic and massive loss of life. :o
