Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
325 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2020

.SHORT TERM [Tonight through Monday]...
Area of showers and probably soon isolated thunderstorms moving
northeast through the northern portions of the area through 7 pm.
Gusty SSE winds will continue this afternoon before weakening. The
models did a good job depicting the s/w this afternoon but the
associated precip has varied widely and have certainly trended the
forecast toward the HRRR/TTWRF in the very short term. Overnight
expect skies to stratus/stratocu back up and typical late June
warmth should be on tap. Temperatures dip down into the 75-82
degree range and wouldn`t rule out it only dipping to 83 at
Galveston but this would still not tie the 84 degree record low
minimum. A few spotty showers are possible toward morning in the
eastern/Galveston bay area toward sunrise...but coverage should be
minimal. Nose of the drier air/next SAL push of dust should race
quickly northwest from near its current position over the Yucatan
peninsula arriving into SETX very late in the afternoon
Monday/evening. Peak heating could see an isolated shower or
thunderstorm over the northern area but drier air and lack of LL
forcing should limit in combination with capping. Gusty winds do
return again Monday - again stronger in the western areas with
some gusts nearing 25 mph and lighter in the east. Temperatures
will climb back up into the lower 90s and may flirt with 102-106
heat indices over the southwest half of the area.

.LONG TERM [Monday night through Sunday]...
Not too many changes to the long term this afternoon. Essentially
a warmer and drier trend, at least relating to rain chances,
Tuesday through Friday as ridging aloft takes root. Wouldn`t be
surprised to see some mid to upper 90f max Temps by the end of the
week for a few inland spots. The holiday weekend could be more
interesting as ridge axis shifts west and energy, possibly in the
shape of a slow moving upper low over the central Gulf Coast
states, evolves. This will lower heights and possibly allow
moisture and accent to sneak into southeastern TX Sat and Sun. All
in all, looks to be a warm week/weekend with at least a chance of
showers/tstms sneaking into the forecast by the weekend.

.MARINE...
Expect south winds around 15 knots to continue for the next few
days with seas generally from 4 to 5 feet, however winds and seas
should relax by the middle of the week. Small craft should
exercise caution tonight possibly into Tuesday.

The dry pattern wont be here for long. While no significant rain is on the horizon scattered thunderstorms seem possible starting this weekend and going into next week as we sit on the western edge of a trough of low pressure over the southeast and precipitable waters increase to over 2 inches. The eastern half of southeast Texas will have the best chances of seeing rain.

It's been raining lightly, here (New Waverly) all morning. Kind of a nice surprise! Although it is so hot, my glasses fogged up when I opened the back door.
