Roads went downhill real quick.

Solid white on all paved surfaces in #bcstx here at dusk (6:15pm)
That was a band of heavy sleet mixed with flurries in College Station. Another band of sleet/snow mix is moving through.

Rain here near the Oak forest area still. Some of the sheets covering plants are starting ice over.

College Station. 6:26 pm

Temperature: 22°F ; 16 NW wind

conditions - heavy sleet, some snow mix. We had flurries earlier. Seems like there was more of a snow band closer to Houston. Really starting to fill in now.

Very small flurries mixed with drizzle here in the Heights, I think we may end up with more snow than we thought, since snow is already starting to reach the ground much earlier than models showed.

The latest HRRR continues to suggest the heavier snow totals shift SE into BCS and encroaching NW Montgomery County with near 7 inch storm totals. Will continue to monitor to see if the trends continue over the next several hours.

And how will we know if it’s the rolling blackouts or power lines snapped?

I have a fairly salty weather obs station just outside of town.

So far nothing has changed what the forecast is showing. We're gonna have some freezing rain/sleet before any changeover happens.

22°F and still mostly sleet although our radar looks like snow in CLL. Hoping that column cools down soon. The freezing rain drizzle had melted on the streets, but the sleet is piling up in a hurry. Roads will be impassable soon.

Yes, sort of a rhetorical question. 😀

The transition from pink to the gray/bluish (wind chill warnings) will begin encompassing much of TX next 24 hours. Technically much of the warnings are already there, but winter storm warnings are overshadowing them right now. Two rare warnings to see from the northern to southern border.
