In the northern parts of southeast Texas and in central Texas there was a snowstorm in April 2007.For Houston the last time we had a winter storm in March was Today in 2014! LOL March 4th.I still remember that night there were widespread thunderstorms all night with temps hovering at freezing.

My 10-day from TWC app (model-driven) shows a low of 33 next Saturday morning. It’s gonna be a close call either way. I’m holding off on any major gardening projects until this passes. We should be in the clear after that.

The latest GEFS ensembles are starting to sniff out a winter storm setup, but it appears this would be mostly a north texas event at this time, still too far out, and its unlikely too, I think the most likely scenario will be a dry frontal passage

This 2014 storm left a mess. My wife and I had a wedding date for 4-26-14 for an outdoor wedding at my parents ranch in Cat Spring just southwest of Bellville. The Ice made a huge mess in downed trees and branches all over their property. It took all of the next month going up every weekend to get them cleaned up and burned so it looked worthy of a wedding. Id pass on an ice storm like that again.

As of right now this seems likely to be a dry frontal passage with little to no precipitation as seen by the GEFS members, but of course their is still a lot of time for things to change

Sat was raised to 34, but shows 32 on Sunday. Yep, planting is on hold, all over a couple of degrees and a couple of hours of worthless chill.

I’m not sure who these “many” are you are referring to. Pro-mets and informed amateurs, like the members of this board - the folks who actually know what the meteorological spring is in the first place - are well aware we can have freezes deep into March. And the general public marks the beginning of Spring according to the lunar calendar, which will occur on March 20th, the day that every printed wall calendar has “First day of Spring” on it.

We do have to watch the system late next week/next weekend. I don’t know that we’ll hit freezing (at 2 meters) in Houston, but we could be looking at a widespread frost event, so freeze/frost protection might be needed for anyone with tender vegetation or new plantings.
By "many", I was referring to people who think that when the calendar flips to March, that means spring is here. These are uniformed people who act like we never get cold during winter, not people who are well-informed like members on this board. :D

I had fun grilling tonight in that 70 degree weather. Other than the upcoming brief cold snap, looking forward to many similar evenings ahead. Jack Frost - your days are numbered! :D :D :D

I was thinking anything over 95 with a heat index of 110+ was unbearable, but I am used to working outside. 80 degrees and dry feels amazing in the summer to me.

I’ve lived in southeast Texas my whole life and have been doing outside work since I was a kid and I still think a dry 80° is hot. Once I get moving my body generates a lot of heat and I get hot pretty fast. Everyone’s different, I suppose. Now if I’m just outside relaxing then 80° is fine with me.

Yeah. 80 degrees or warmer and our usual humidity is gross. Give me 60-70 dry weather any day.

That really depends upon the dewpoint and humidity.

I don't mind warm. Even hot for short periods of time. But not with a DP > 60°F. DP > 70°F is unbearable.

In North Carolina we had extended warm period in the Spring and Fall, but the DP was <60°F. In the summer it was hot and humid, but that was for 2.5 - 3 months out of the year. You could power through it.

I think the deal here is that warm/hot and humid weather is 7-9 months out of the year. High A/C and water bills. It's hard to power through. And it rained every 2-3 days. Not in CLL in the summer.

Our "winters" are called Fall up north. Last February's winter storm was one of the few true "winter" weather periods (>1-2 days) I've experienced in 30 years in Texas. The January 2021 snow was melting the next day. I don't really consider that "winter."

60°F and sunny
38°F

is my ideal day. We've had a few of those this "winter."
