I’m hearing lots of thunder to my south and southwest right now (2:00). These temps are just fine with me. It could be worse - it could be 100, so enjoy this while it lasts.

The cold wasn’t that bad for me. It was great weather for the Christmas holiday. Other than hearing about some more busted pipes and lost plants, it wasn’t nearly as bad as 2021. My mule palms did fine. We dug-up some of the tii plants and bird of paradise and put them in buckets in the garage. Brought in the potted citrus and hanging baskets. We covered the rest of our tropicals. Of course they all got torched but they will all come back again. Overall we fared OK. Some snow would have been nice - maybe next time.

It’s all north of me. I’m just too far south.

Got exactly a half inch in Richmond. Was expecting less than that. Lost power for about 3 seconds (annoying as it just surges everything) had some loud thunder too. Guess that’s all as the sun is out now lol.. Gross

Hello everyone! Happy New Year! I finished my first semester at Mississippi State a few weeks ago and will be returning to Starkville in a few weeks. Unfortunately, I spent Christmas sick and am just now getting over it. However, today was a great day for my school, as we won our bowl game in Tampa! :D

My wife said it poured at the house. Probably a few tenths of rain. Everything is soaked. We should be done with fire and drought danger for now.

The dewpoint peaked at 71°F here. I've NEVER seen that in early January in CLL.

The pea soup should be abated by morning.

There is a broken line of showers within 15 miles moving east. A coin flip on chances of rain here. Probably half that in HOU.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
1130 AM CST Tue Jan 3 2023

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Tomorrow Night)
Issued at 331 AM CST Tue Jan 3 2023

The anticipated cold front is currently making its way through the
area. Most reports from storms firing up along the front as been sub-
severe, but still cannot out rule the potential for hail or strong
winds. The area of concern for severe thunderstorms will be in the
pre-dawn hours today in our northeastern counties (Trinity, Polk,
and San Jacinto counties). Once the line of thunderstorms is through,
the chance of thunderstorms ends for today. The front will make its
way down to the I-10 corridor around sunrise, but CAPE is much more
limited in this region and along the coast. So anticipating the line
of thunderstorms to become scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms
as it gets to I-10, and then just isolated showers towards the coast.
There may be some lingering coastal showers through the late morning,
but the majority of the precipitation will be done with by 9 to 10am.

The rest of the short term will be dominated by high pressure
building in the wake of the cold front`s exit. Expect drier (no more
dew points in the low 70s!) and cooler/near normal temperatures.
Today`s high temperatures (low to mid 70s) will be occuring between
now and the mid morning before the cold front pushes through. The
low temperatures tonight will be about 10 degrees cooler compared to
the previous night with temperatures in the mid 40s to near 50.
Cooler weather prevails on Wednesday with highs in the mid to upper
60s north of Conroe and low 70s elsewhere. Clear skies and light
winds will bring low temperatures Wednesday night down into the low
to mid 40s area-wide.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday through Tuesday)
Issued at 331 AM CST Tue Jan 3 2023

Thursday will be another sunny, cool and dry early January day with
lows mainly in the 40s and highs mostly in the mid to upper 60s.
Before high pressure moves off to the east, Thursday night will be
clear and cool with lows again mostly in the 40s. Friday will begin
a transition as high pressure moves off to the east and a return flow
sets back up across the area. Still expecting sunny skies with highs
a little warming and back into the lower to possibly mid 70s. Friday
night is when we will see increasing clouds with lows mainly in the
50s. Rain chances are back in the forecast starting Saturday and
persisting Monday night due to rising moisture levels and a slow
moving cold front that will be edging into and across the area. High
temperatures Sunday through Tuesday will dip back down into the 60s
and low temperatures will dip back down in into the 40s and 50s.

&&

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 1128 AM CST Tue Jan 3 2023

With the front slowly pushing off the coast, cooler/drier air will
continue to filter into the region through the afternoon. VFR con-
ditions being reported at most terminals but the sea fog at/around
GLS has been harder to shake. Will keep a couple of extra lines in
for this TAF through the neet few hour. Otherwise, the rest of the
forecast looks to be winds as ceilings remain elevated. N/NW winds
this afternoon (10kt) are expected to become mostly light/variable
tonight (5kt) with a more SW flow developing tomorrow (10kt). 41

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 331 AM CST Tue Jan 3 2023

A cold front will move off the coast this morning with isolated to scattered
showers and thunderstorms mainly along and ahead of the boundary. Winds
and seas will continue to gradually weaken. Periods of fog will come
to an end after the passage of the front but could return at the end
of the week and over the weekend before the arrival of the next front.
Expect strengthening south to southeast winds and building seas Friday
and Saturday. Caution flags are likely and advisory flags might
be needed.

It was great. I was very busy mostly with chemistry and calculus. Fortunately, I only had to take one semester of chemistry. Not my favorite subject to say the least. I also took a class called "weather analysis." It was fun and I learned a lot, but I never figured out how to do well on the quizzes for that class. So many abstract questions.
