We haven't had a winter storm impact Houston this much since 1997

This glaze event is one we'll remember for a while
I remember the January 1997 winter storm. What a mess it was! School was called off for two days.

Alrighty as I feared this system became a big deal as far as ice is concerned! I see a few people grumpy with the ice and not getting snow. It's sad hearing of many accidents. :( After the temps start rising and the sun melts/dries roads, it is time for me and would help some people to get off the computer for awhile and if no work, sit at home and relax with family and enjoy the 3 day weekend and super bowl!

cisa wrote:bb, are you in Porter now? We're actually having a little Flurry now. Kind of ironic I thought. Hey, I just wanted to know that your normally one of my fav's on the board. I too thought you were a little harsh last night, but we're all tired and everyone is allowed to have their opinion. Don't feel bashed. We love ya. Hope you get to see a furry too. I'm near Community Dr. and it's been coming down about 20 min.(tiny flakes) :)
Hi, Cisa...

I was up most of the night trying to keep everybody informed about what was, or was not coming our way. When I saw the freezing rain moving out, and the snow from out west taking a liking for Dallas, I began to take short naps. I'm lying in bed still with my cell phone in hand. I've not been outside.

I come online just now and find all the wonderful thank yous for my efforts. Cisa, I, for the life of me, don't get the "harsh" statement. At least you are not rude about it. Thanks for the kind words. You are greatly appreciated as well.

good morning all. Luckily we did not receive all the ice and freezing rain that was expected overnight. Looking outside it's hard to even see the ice on any tre limbs. Driveway is wet but not even icy.

It is icy here, but not real bad, by that I mean no downed trees or power lines, so I consider us very lucky as far as that is concerned. We are seeing very little flurries in the air though.

If the 12Z GFS is correct, we'll see another Arctic air mass heading in overnight Tuesday into Wednesday...

It is okay, redneck. Some people are just wanting to pick a fight, so they read/see what they want out of your post. I know what you meant, and agree. There is no disrespect to the injuries and deaths. Give me a break.

WOW - this board has turned acerbic rather quickly. Is it the disappointment of no snow that is causing this friction? I don't think folks want to pick a fight. I'd like to remind everyone that this vehicle for discussion is call a Forum: a meeting or assembly for the open discussion of subjects of public interest. Notice Discussion: defined as an exchange of views or opinion on some topic. And lastly notice Opinion: A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof.

To sum it up ... This is a weather forum where people openly discuss their personal interest on the weather and offer their opinion. Some of those opinions hold more credibility than others - such as professional met's trying to substantiate their beliefs with data. But it is still their opinion and just because a map or model suggest something might happen, still doesn't mean that will be fact and become true. Saying a model indicates the potential for rain does not mean it's going to rain. Standing outside and getting wet ... and saying it's raining is a fact. However, whether it's a professional met or just an avid weather-watcher, it's all still just opinions.

It's personal choice how one chooses to respond to an opinion. Some may be more passionate than others and some might not choose the best of words to express their beliefs - so I don't think there's anyone here that wants to pick a fight .... we're all just expressing opinions about the weather ... and some choose to respond positively and some negatively. IMO of course ;-)

live videos on Fox showing Dallas blanketed in snow looks nice, it just wasn't our time, its hard enough to get enough moisture in a La Nina winter, we weren't expecting these kind of temps or moisture this winter so this is still a pretty big thing, it could indicate a cooler trend like the 70s and 80s had, as some have mentioned, but for now I'm ready for Summer

Concerning next weeks weather - it looks as though everyone is shifting gears and the discussion is picking up. I know it's been customary in the past to keep posting events for the month on the same thread .... but with over 360 pages for the first 4 days in Feb, I'm wondering if it might be beneficial to begin a new thread?

Normally a thread on the month does not exceed 50 pages and this exceeded 350 pages. This is probably the largest since Ike. I think it would be a good idea to start a new thread.

I think we'll keep this thread going for the day. As you can see our Pros and others have 'hinted' more cold air is on the way. Perhaps tomorrow would be a better time to consider a new thread and we can let this thread become a bit more 'historical' in nature and move on to the next 'event'. Folks are still reading and joining. So before we shift gears completely, I think we should let this one stay as our main thread, for now. Remember, this event is not over. We will likely have another hard freeze overnight before a bit of a 'warm up' over the weekend.

I did edit the title to cover the first 5 days of February as well as the cold and winter storm. If someone wants to start a new thread to cover next week events, be our guest. ;)
