Why do hurricanes that hit the East Coast always look like this on satellite one might ask.

As hurricanes go further north, they are interacting and influenced by the jet stream. They are also undergo extratropical transition and get larger. Frontal and trough interaction can cause it as well as seen in Opal and Floyd. Opal and Wilma shows that hurricanes can look like that in the Gulf of Mexico from cold fronts.
