Did the seabreeze pass already? I don't know what NWS did with their radar recently, but it makes it hard to see certain features.

They decluttered all of them to hide the false returns and ground clutter. It does hide faint boundaries though unfortunately.

You can still see it visibly on MyRadar app. I use it religiously.

I’m actually heartened to learn that we had summers like this way back in 1902

Hot summers have happened before. Many go unrecorded.

I read a book about the 1850s. Apparently it was a scorcher decade that would make even todays standards blush per records kept, but they weren’t official records, so they don’t get talked about.

The arrogance of todays society that they think we can control heat and/or cold. SMH.

It was supposed to be? Where did you hear that? As far as I knew, our rain chances today were near 0..

We don't - it's not on purpose, but CO2 does what it does.

And it’s not “arrogance”.

Fly over South Louisiana and try to say that man can’t do that. What total nonsense.

Most climate scientists are very humble human beings doing their life’s passion. What is that supposed to even mean?

What’s “arrogant” are oil and gas companies paying people good money to spin their products are perfectly safe when the preponderance of evidence proves otherwise. They are intentionally duping the uneducated. That’s arrogance.

It’s like The Insider all over again.

Have never seen such an awful summer. Life for 3 months has literally been, get up, go to work, or get up and stay inside. Can't do anything enjoyable outside at all.

No. What's arrogant is thinking the USA needs to fall on this sword and somehow control anything. Meanwhile China and India ramp up to more than make up for any feeble attempts we put forward.

Blaming Oil & Gas as the big boogeyman is very misplaced. As I had said on here awhile back, some of us are working on all manners of innovation to produce safer and more sustainable materials. If you want to share anger with someone, I'll look at Big Pharma with you though.

Yeah, you and I are definitely going to have to agree to disagree on this. To speak in absolutes about this is very emotion forward over logic.

We all agree the climate is changing, and it always will based on a number of factors. To say humans are absolutely driving that change is laughable at best given we are in the infancy stages of record keeping as a world.

Where I will agree that humans were stupid , was building in places like South Louisiana and heck, even parts of our area. That’s not climate change though, that’s depleting swamp and or grassland that was never meant to be built on.

One thing I feel pretty certain about… we will go through hot stretches that break records and cold stretches that will break records, and the media will still attempt to brainwash people that only Govt intervention and destroying our economy is the only way forward. Green communists if you will.

And the defense of scientists? There was just a publication with a little over 1600 scientists who disagree with you, and say there is no climate crisis. I don’t know if they are right or not, just as you don’t know, but I find it funny that people will agree with the side that fits their narrative and ignore the other.

The science is never settled and this has become way too politicized. I work squarely in the cross section of this argument, and I benefit from both sides of the aisle financially. I hear extreme arguments from both sides and work with both types of viewpoints on this subject. I have no motives other than finding the right balance for the future. I have seen no evidence to dramatically change our energy mix to lesser reliable forms, while the far east commissions and fortifies more and more petro based grids.

But he never said that ONLY the USA must take the mantle (though there is some truth in the fact that it's unfair to chide developing nations when it's the First World/Global North that has been dominating w/ capital intensive activites + resultant emissions).

At the end of the day, it's clearly a world-wide effort that needs to be undertaken. As was mentioned earlier this summer, the lack of early adoption of nuclear energy was one of humanity's greatest mistakes. Another great mistake was the population boom: people will have to stop procreating if we want to even have a chance at a future (having kids results in huge emissions per capita).

I agree with you on nuclear power. The rest (including the article) is propaganda. Climate has been changing since the dawn of time. Heck, the Tonga eruption last year doubled the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere all by itself. Nothing we did or could do will have changed that. Should we be good stewards of our planet? Absolutely. Should we kill ourselves off to do it? Absolutely not.

Thank you.

I didn’t say that and I respectfully request that people don’t put words in my mouth or assume I feel a certain way politically because of my scientific viewpoint on a specific matter.

It’s a complicated subject with lots of influences, both natural and unnatural. The other countries absolutely need to do their part too. I hope that people and policy makers give serious thought to the matter rather than jump to a conclusion simply because that’s what the political party of their choice believes.

There is no silver bullet, and of course I recognize that the petro industry is vital to maintain our modern standard of living. But like most things it doesn’t come without its consequences.

I don’t really have much to add to the discussion without writing an endless dissertation on the matter and better qualified folks than me have already done that. I just want it to rain again.

Who thinks we have to kill ourselves? We can do meaningful, productive, and economical changes. What I dislike about this debate is one side believes it’s “let’s do nothing because other countries aren’t”. A 10% in reduction is still reduction. Do that enough times it becomes 100%. Change should happen just to better the planet not because industry X will go out of business or country A is getting richer because they don’t care about pollution. We can make changes and do so in a sustainable way.

Media isn’t brainwashing people (well most reliable journalists aren’t). They are giving reports about journals that are written by scientists that are peer reviewed. There have been sensationalized movies but movies are supposed to be works of sensational fiction. Journalist by and large aren’t “green communists”. I understand how MontgomeryCoWx is on his side of the argument because he has vested interested in O&G. For full transparency, I work in the environmental industry, I also have a vested interest. It’s ok to be passionate one way or the other but I think we can all agree we can do better for the planet.

I don’t work in the O&G industry. I work in the power distribution industry. I have O&G clients. I have solar clients. I have wind clients. I have nuclear clients. I have backup battery storage clients. I have Private Equity portfolio managers as clients who look at ESG.

I have no skin in one vertical over the other. I am also a political independent but very free market. I call Democrats and Republicans what they are in 2023. Communists and Nationalists. Ds aren’t liberal and Rs aren’t conservative anymore. One is extremely authoritarian and common senseless and the other is a populist hodgepodge of people who don’t have sound principles anymore.
