Trend that system on the euro a good 150-200 miles to the south and it will be even better!

We would cash in mid-late January with that snowpack. No doubt.

I think we should plan a meet-up. Should I create a new thread for this? Who would all be interested? I want to coordinate at a time/place when/where most folks can participate.

I’m down to meet.

I could even host if y’all wanted to get away from the city but Weimar isn’t the most exciting. I’d be willing to meet west side somewhere. It’s about a hour 15 to get into west Katy and 90 minutes to get into Memorial

Sure, I’ll go! West side of Houston around Katy would be preferable for me.

Big differences between the 0z GFS/Euro. GFS is significantly more progressive and way less rain. Euro looks ideal!

The only time that I will side with you and others on this board concerns summer weather — droughts like in 2022 and especially 2023 are useless, I'd much rather have cooler, wetter summers like that from 2021.

But freezes are also useless to me as well. So the 2023 "silver-lining" was the successful completion of IAH's first ever freeze-free year (as well as the first ever USDA 10b and 11a year, in Hobby and Galveston, respectively).

The heat and drought pushed it over the edge for me. Don’t want to go through that again and thank god I no longer have an outside job.

Yep, and no freezes nearby in that particular run as well!

December 2008 is an example of a wintry (snow) event that I can tolerate — temps in Houston went no lower than 32°F during the night, after daytime highs in the 40s.

I see 2 freezes for me and looking forward to a lot more in late January! They are coming.

The winter of 1930-1931 did not have freezing temperature. January 1930 had a low of 5°F. 1931 did not see freezing temperature. March 1932 had freezing temperatures and it snowed. 1931 and 2023 are years without freezing temperature recorded. Of course, data from the past should be taken with caution.

No doubt about that. That's why I compromise regarding a Dec 2008-type event — I was in first year in middle school then, but I remember the uncertainty regarding forecasts during the day, only for the "miracle" to pull through by nightfall. Totals around ~1.4inches in Houston, and temps remained in the 30s (pretty slushy stuff packs well for snowballs and snowmen!).

2023 was the first freeze-free calendar year at IAH (i.e. ever since opened for business in 1969). The official City of Houston records prior to that were taken at another site farther south (not sure if Downtown or Hobby airport, however).
