After a summer that rivaled Hell, some Russian scientists say that the coldest winter in 1000 years is likely to glaciate most of Siberia and Canada...well, if the temps that they are forecasting come true. lol. Moscow to reach -25 C. wow.

La Nina has some strong cold blasts, even though it is warmer. The longest freezes in Southeast Texas occurred in La Nina.

I read at the other site that this winter could be like 1989-90, which had strong cold blasts in December. The rest of the winter was mild.

I think many people will be surprised with some of the temps we could see later this year.

Indeed, even though we are in a La Nina winter it will not take much of a flow change to bring some of that shallow Canadian air south into Texas. Houston can still see some hard freezes, just the overall chances are less with a La Nina pattern.
