Austin likely to issue Wind Chill Advisory:

NO BIG CHANGES TO THE FORECAST...MAINLY JUST RE-TRENDING OF
TEMPERATURE...DEW POINT...AND SKY COVER FOR THE REST OF TODAY.
THE WIND ADVISORY WILL LIKELY NEED TO BE EXTENDED PAST 6 PM AND
POSSIBLY UNTIL MIDNIGHT...AND WE WILL LIKELY ISSUE A WIND CHILL
ADVISORY FOR THE HILL COUNTRY AS WIND CHILL VALUES WILL BE NEAR OR
SLIGHTLY BELOW ZERO TONIGHT.

Candy Cane wrote:OFF TOPIC KINDA: ***PLEASE PROTECT THE ANIMALS****

Folks, it is no mistake that there are a lot of ignorant people in this world. Animals get cold. Their fur only goes so far. With temps now forecast to hit the teens for many of us (especially on the north side) it is CRUEL to leave your animals outside. I'm begging you, please, PLEASE, bring your animals in. If you don't like them in your house, put them in the garage with warm blankets to sleep on. Just do SOMETHING to get them out of the elements. I worry about the animals. I love them. If you are in a position to do so, pick the strays up walking the streets and offer them a place for the night. That is what we do. I worry about the dogs and cats that people let wonder. It is mean, cruel and selfish not to bring them in. Please don't forget about our furry friends. They love us and hopefully you love them.

Thank you Candy Cane for that reminder. I worry about them too. Please everyone with outside pets, bring them in your laundry room or garage with blankets for just a few nights! Please don't be cruel!!

To give you an idea of the trajectory of the cold air, it is the same temp in Green Bay, WI as it is in Dallas this hour. Both are at 20.

I want to get back to talking about this snow. When will we know just how much and where? The Woodlands wants to see some snow.

Small update:

Got a text from my source at HGX and he can't reveal what watches are going to be issued at 4pm (if any). He DID SAY that he is concerned about icing in Houston before the snow starts and thinks the highest accumulations will be NORTH of Downtown Houston. Stay tuned...it is getting interesting fast.

Not until Thursday evening as the event unfolds. Until then, it's just an educated guess as to accumulations. And it'll still be somewhat of a guess on Thursday evening, depending upon where individual snow bands develop.

Not sure why he'd say north of downtown, as it appears moisture will be much greater south of downtown, and the air aloft will be cold enough.

You make it sound very much like if you are north of I-10 you can hang it up. I disagree with your analysis. This looks much more wide spread than a Clear Lake to Galveston type event.

He is probably right CC. I see that pro mets are thinking maybe a half inch or so north of I-10 with the bigger accumulations south of I-10. I would like to hear why your friend thinks north of I-10?

12Z cmc 2m temps are just crazy. CMC predicts 2m temps to be 10F on Sat morning in HOUSTON! That isn't even the worst part between San Antonio and Houston the CMC has temps getting down to 0!! That would be amazing but I see no chance in that happening.
