If you think Houston was wet, try Mount Waialeale, Mawsynram, and Cherrapunji.
Mount Waialeale, the wettest place in America and one of the wettest places in the world. They get 430 inches of rain per year on average. Talk about a really wet spot. Sometimes, they can get up to +40 inches per a month. It is like having 10 years of Houston annual rainfall total fall every month.
The wettest place in the world are Mawsynram and Cherrapunji in India. Cherrapunji measured over 900 inches of rain in a year, including 366 inches in one month! On average, Cherrapunji gets 460 inches, while Mawsynram gets 470 inches per a year. That's like having annual Houston rainfall total fall 10 times per a month! Keep in mind, most of their rain comes in the monsoon season, unlike in Hawaii, which is spread out more evenly. In India, it is really dry in the winter. In July, the average rainfall total is 128 inches! More than how much rain falls per a year in Houston on average!
Houston area has seen +100 inches of rain per a year in 1973, 1979, and 2001.

Blake and I were wondering what you were talking about, as the highest total I see is 83.02 in 1979 at HOU.Ptarmigan wrote:Houston area has seen +100 inches of rain per a year in 1973, 1979, and 2001.
They were co-op stations I read in Geoge Bomar's book, especially in 1979 in Brazoria County.Mr. T wrote: Blake and I were wondering what you were talking about, as the highest total I see is 83.02 in 1979 at HOU.

Honestly, I still find it hard to believe. Once, maybe (and that's a long shot) but 3 times? Neh, somebody is using fuzzy math.Ptarmigan wrote:They were co-op stations I read in Geoge Bomar's book, especially in 1979 in Brazoria County.Mr. T wrote: Blake and I were wondering what you were talking about, as the highest total I see is 83.02 in 1979 at HOU.
