Hobby, Ellington Field and League City have officially received freezing temperatures. IAH is at 30F with time to go a degree lower making it the coldest morning since March 2015...officially. I have 28F reading on my weather station at this time.
Looking like one more freeze tomorrow morning before we begin to moderate a bit before the next frontal passage Wednesday night/early Thursday morning.
Still way too much uncertainty regarding the Christmas Weekend forecast. Best guess is seasonal temperatures and a possibility of light precipitation.

The 00Z GEFS individual ensembles members are all over the place with the upper low ejecting out of the Eastern Pacific and the Winter Storm expected to organize across the Southern/Central Rockies into the Plains Christmas Day. Thus all the uncertainty in a highly volatile upper air pattern. I had a low of 29. Looks like my pattern of being one degree below IAH continues at the new house. I only moved about a mile though. It was nice not having to wrap a bunch of tender palms this year. Just some potted plants to bring in and one baby orange tree to cover.

I'd question the WNW Bunker Hill Village @ 22 degrees because every other Bunker Hill Village, Hunters Creek Village, and Piney Point Village recording station was reporting 28 degrees or higher.
Maybe we should get A.V. to check into it for us.

They're all wrong. It couldn't have been any lower than 50 degrees. Looking nice for Christmas Day, if you like it warm (and I do). Low near 70 and a high near 80. The record high on Christmas is 82 set in 1964. The record warm low is 67 set in 1942 - we could break that one easily.

While we don't trust the computer guidance beyond 3 to 5 days, if the longer range ECMWF EPS is correct we could see a Wave 2 Pattern developing in the days after Christmas. Such a Hemispheric Pattern can suggest that Alaska and NW Canada reloads with very cold Arctic air with the potential of a cross Polar flow becoming established. Some of the Teleconnection indices suggest the upper air pattern could become favorable for delivering cold air once again just as 2016 ends and 2017 begins. We will see. Time to enjoy this warm weather while we have it. Winter is unfortunately far from over.

A very fast progressive changeable forecast is ahead with a Pacific front arriving tomorrow that will lower temperatures a bit and return as a warm front Thursday night/Friday morning as the cut off upper low ejects across the Baja Peninsula NE towards New Mexico and shears out. Temperatures warm to the low to mid 70''s this weekend as a powerful Winter Storm ejects out of the Great Basin and the Central Rockies creating a myriad of weather worries across the Great Plains and the Mid West, Mid/Upper Mississippi Valley Regions on Christmas Day. The ski areas out West from California to the Rockies could be measuring snowfall by the feet with lower elevation rainfall. North of the Winter Storm, Blizzard conditions are possible from Wyoming across the Central and Northern Plains with a chance of strong to severe storms in the warm sector creating a lot of Holiday Travel Troubles across the Central United States.
Back in Texas, it appears another strong shot of colder air arrives next Monday in the wake of the existing Christmas Winter Storm to our North. Rains chances enter the picture Christmas Day as well as foggy mornings Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Shelf waters have cooled tremendously from the Arctic front, so expect sea fog to become an issue as flow off the Gulf returns the next couple of months.
The longer range toward the New Years Eve timeframe shows 'hints' of very cold air re establishing across our source Regions of Alaska and Western Canada and a very persistent Western cold upper trough that eases its way toward the Plains near years end. If that upper pattern come to fruition, I would not be surprised to see much colder air arrive and potentially the chance for NW Gulf Coast lows to organize which typically spells trouble in the form of wintry mischief such as freezing rain with shallow Arctic Airmasses. Time will tell and we will certainly monitor the sensible weather beyond Christmas.
