The Unprecedented Rains In Virginia Associated With The Remnants Of Hurricane Camille
ftp://ftp.library.noaa.gov/docs.lib/htd ... 1-0851.pdf

The remnant of once power Hurricane Camille dumped heavy rain over Western and Central Virginia from interacting with a cold front. The highest total was 27 inches with a report of 31 inches. It is likely over 40 inches fell. Most of the death came from mudslides from heavy rain. The heavy rain fell at night and near the center, which suggests it is a core rain.
