I can see the rainy pattern sticking around after looking at the 12z Euro and the past two runs of the GFS. Mid to late next week definitely could be interesting.

Splitting hairs… A few miles here or there tomorrow will make a world of difference if a cell sets up and hangs out for an hour or so. While other areas will see not much, if anything.

I’m honestly ok if it dries out until this weekend. Heck I’d be fine with it drying out until next weekend. But I know that will be the norm soon enough. July-Sept are brutal here unless we get a storm. I miss the old days of having afternoon storms around 3-5pm. Heck, sometimes it was 1-2pm just to cool it down and feel the breeze on the backside of those cumulonimbus clouds was (and still is) amazing.

I’m loving the current temps, rain and clouds. My garden is producing like no other (freeze may have helped if you know what I mean), but the sun needs to come out just a little and then it can go away again lol.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for central and SW portions of SETX including the Houston area until 7PM due to saturated grounds and some locally heavy rainfall possible this afternoon. Lots of sun still on the way Thursday and Friday.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of south central Texas and southeast Texas...
including the following counties...in south central Texas...
Coastal Jackson and Inland Jackson. In southeast Texas...
Austin...Brazoria Islands...Coastal Brazoria...Coastal
Harris...Coastal Matagorda...Colorado...Fort Bend...Inland
Brazoria...Inland Harris...Inland Matagorda...Matagorda
Islands...Montgomery...Waller...Washington and Wharton.

* Through this evening

* Look for showers and thunderstorms to increase in areal coverage today with the aid of daytime heating and another upper level disturbance moving across the state. Soils are extremely saturated and rivers are swollen from daily rainfall occurring over the past week. Localized amounts between 4 and 12 inches were observed just yesterday. It won`t take much additional rainfall, especially heavy rain in a short time period, to
quickly runoff to produce additional flooding. Precipitation
should taper off this evening with the loss of heating.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to Flash Flooding. Flash Flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Can we split up all this rain and save some for July and August? Getting 8 inches all at once is a waste when we could gladly take 2-3 inches later on.

Yeah, at this point the ground is totally saturated. I don't need any more rain to help cool me off in August - what I need is for my pool to get built!

Figures, I'm the one always wanting more rain. And for once, I need some dry weather. We sign our contract with "dry" La Nina summer on the way with an already developing drought, everything looks great -- and then and Mother Nature does a 180 and says "time to dump on H-town now"...
