I am sure Srain will give his AFD later, but this is HGX and it might suffice for awhile. It is slowly moving our way. Be careful what you wish for...

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
1217 PM CDT Tue Jun 19 2018

.AVIATION...
MVFR ceilings are mostly prevailing across the region early this
afternoon. We could see some of these lift later today in between
areas of rainfall...esp closer to the coast. With daytime
heating, we`re starting to shra filling in on radar and expect
intermittent precip throughout the day. Bands are generally fast
moving and even the weaker shra can throw out some 20-30kt gusts.
Otherwise, kept TAFs short/generic and will amend as short term
trends are established. Model guidance, even the short term
guidance, hasn`t been of much help as of late so prefer not to
chase those. 47

I've had about 2.5" since Sunday morning. Kinda strange overnight and today how much of the Houston area has been in a dry zone. It may be a blessing after seeing what's happening over in the Beaumont area.

Tonight could be pretty dicey for us, especially if that eastern band ever moves off or collapses.

Currently raining in the Clear Lake area, adding to the 1.5 inches we've received for this event so far. Looking at HGX it seems a whole lot more is own its way:

Nope! Not watching qpf or any models any longer. They are on vacation during this system. Way way off. Have a feeling Beaumont was/is the bullseye so far for heaviest rains. Not one model has yet pin pointed that! We a nearing a foot of rain now in the golden triangle beaumont area. I threw the models out long time ago. Its all NOWcasting I think. Radar watching and watching the motion. Thats more accurate than any precip model imp at this point.

Some of the trends today are concerning. The MLC appears to be moving very slowly NNW. The latest Euro dumps the most rain roughly between the Houston & Austin areas and back down to the coast, with a few pockets of 12"+ over the next 48 hours.

At this point, it's not much different than a decaying tropical cyclone trapped over land.

Finally some mercy for Beaumont...that band still keeps pressing slowly to the east.
