correct, but 10" non the less. Even with a mix thats just an insane number for us.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 3:29 pm That 10 inches is not pure snow, the euro and GFS do not really distinguish pure snow from mixing, that 10 inches includes ice and sleet, still crazy to look at though

If it's still showing 10 inches on Monday then I'll bite. Until then it's just a pretty picture lolsnowman65 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 3:31 pmcorrect, but 10" non the less. If that temperature profile verifies for next week that is dangerous cold

18z GFS is speeding up the arrival time of the arctic air
Hopefully the cold kills all the damned mosquitoes. They are horrible right now.
How would that timing be to interact with a coastal low?Stratton20 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 4:52 pm 18z GFS is speeding up the arrival time of the arctic air

18z GFS also has a 1072 mb Arctic high…..
The GFS does have a storm system moving through at hour 168 as the arctic air begins to enter the state, but the storm system on that run doesnt sig far enough south, not that it means much at that range though

Potential snow pack on Dec 22 from Montana and the Dakotas to the Red River Valley.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:03 pm 18z GFS also has a 1072 mb Arctic high…..

The ski slope is set for arctic cold air to slide down without moderating, and a busy SJT. Potential setup for ice, then snow. We'll see. Too many elements have to come together just right.
...like EPO, NAO, AO all negative. SSW also.
The SOI is going negative as well. Important factor.DoctorMu wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:26 pmPotential snow pack on Dec 22 from Montana and the Dakotas to the Red River Valley.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:03 pm 18z GFS also has a 1072 mb Arctic high…..

ABC 13 weather team in Houston now mentioning Siberian air and giving an early heads up about “severe cold” by Christmas weekend…
“An arctic cold front?! Will this be a repeat of the February 2021 winter storm? And could we have a white Christmas?
It's too early to know exactly how we will be impacted by next week's arctic cold front, but a hard freeze and wintry precipitation are certainly possible. Bitter cold air from Siberia is expected to come across the arctic circle into Canada and the United States early next week. There is a moderately strong signal that this cold air will plunge into Texas, but we still don't know how cold it will get and whether or not any moisture will be available to generate wintry precip. We just want to give you an early heads up that things could turn severely cold by Christmas weekend with the arctic chill arriving in Houston as early as Thursday, December 22nd.”

You know it's getting real when local meta are starting to mention it
Yep. Those faucet covers and pipe insulation will be flying off the shelves now that it’s mentioned on local tvtxsnowmaker wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:35 pm ABC 13 weather team in Houston now mentioning Siberian air and giving an early heads up about “severe cold” by Christmas weekend…

Looking more and more like the holidays will be a December to remember....
Since we added new landscaping we're gonna do a trial run this weekend to make sure we have enough freeze cloths for everything. Time to get the propane tanks refilled too.

Christmas bullseye with half a foot of snow for Houston on the 18z GFS. Fun to ponder!

Wow - that's an early lead for ABC 13 weather.
Snow and ice are the best insulators against the cold.
