The main line looks to be just about gone. Are they still thinking more comes later?

Appears that way. Dry air is coming in quickly. I have a thin layer of ice on stuff that was rain/sleeted on like swing set, mailbox, vehicle, etc. Looks like precip is done but temps dropping quick. I’m already down to 29 in Richmond and the wind is picking up. Will be interesting to see how much water freezes with these winds

That was probably the warmest December of my life. Had to keep cutting the grass once every two weeks and that’s just not supposed to happen in December. It seemed like almost every day was in the 80’s.

The reality is, people that have a novice passion for weather, especially Winter Weather, are typically emotion over logic followers of Weather. In 2022, most individuals lead with emotion over logic (see social media, polarization politically, etc) and this place can be a microcosm of that.

I saw, on this board, and S2K, many saying it would never get cold this winter and that it was over. That’s an emotion over logic response. I knew it would get cold, because it always will here at some point in the Winter. I put a conservative 14.5 freezing nights as my Over/Under. I will go over this weekend. I put highs at 40 and below at 4.5. I will be at 4 after this week and will break it before February is over.

Here’s the thing. Winter Weather in this state is very different from region to region. If you live south of I-10 and EXPECT Winter weather (ice/snow), your perception is divorced from reality. Quite frankly, the last 14-15 years here has been way above average for accumulating events. Houston is usually good for 1-2 accumulating events a DECADE. We had 5 in 2013-2014.

/Rant over
Warm Decembers can give way to cold January and February.

So those maps from Justin Stapelton with precip from 7pm to 7am in that band isn’t gonna pan out. If so, we’d be having a little mess….

So, did arid air win out by preventing snow, sleet, and graupel from forming and falling today?

Pretty much. It’s drying out now. Party over. I was actually hoping for a bit more protective ice on the plants.

Something that Harold Taft taught me and a lot of folks to our NW are about to learn: sublimation

PS - it's still so windy here, it's insane. 29.5 °F. Too windy to cover anything. Almost a true blue norther. It is what it is...

Its mainly due to the proximity to the southeast ridge. The further east you are the greater influence it will have.
