Looks like the only thing that will come from this event is a very rare HGX High Wind Warning

I don't know when the last high wind warning was issued for this CWA...

What exactly has caused such strong wind gusts down there?

A wind gust to 69 mph in Galveston with no thunderstorm influence. That is crazy!

Looks like an inflow jet dipped down to the surface briefly. I've seen that happen occasionally, mostly at night. Very strong winds flowing northward into an approaching storm system sometimes dip down to the surface. This time the result was a 70 mph wind gust.

Next.

Forecast was right about this system. It all stayed to the north of us.

When is the next system scheduled to happen? Anything long-range being forecasted?

Hmm for some reason it just seems that the Houston area cant get significant severe weather any more due to a continues cap that seems to always be here whenever we have the right setup for severe weather. I think its been since May 2005 that we last seen a SIGNIFICANT severe weather event. Thats not necessarily a bad thing though...

Ed is just mad that all activities at Talladega superspeedway have been CANCELED for today. There will be a Double header tomorrow though. That area of AL is under a PDS Watch in the High Risk Area. SPC has noted the Day 6 (Thursday / April 29th ) time frame for a severe threat in the Southern Plains and points E. No rain here last night that I can tell. HGX and the SPC has done well with the current threat and held their ground for us in SE TX. Not a bust "locally" IMHO. Even wxman57 stated yesterday morning that we would not see any severe weather here and that today would be beautiful for bike riding. ;)

I'm disappointed about Talledega today, too. But knew it would be rained out for the past week. Next weekend looks like another event to our north. Time to head out on the bike soon. Great weather for biking.

Man, what a bummer. I was honestly looking forward to experiencing some good and exciting severe thunderstorms last night and early this morning, but it just was not meant to be our turn.

HPC shows no main surfacing forcing here on Friday (except for maybe some warm air advection.) It does show a weak warm front heading our way on Saturday, however it's unclear if that will bring much rainfall toward the area.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
500 AM CDT SUN APR 25 2010

.DISCUSSION...
A DRY AND WARM DAY ON TAP IN ADVANCE OF S/W ROTATING AROUND THE
MAIN EASTERN U.S. TROUGH. NW LL FLOW WILL PREVAIL TODAY THEN
DECOUPLE TONIGHT AS HIGH PRESSURE MOVES ACROSS THE AREA AND THEN
OUT INTO THE GULF MONDAY. THIS WILL BEGIN THE ONSHORE FLOW MONDAY
AND A SLIGHT INCREASE IN MOISTURE. A COLD FRONT WILL BE DROPPING
THROUGH THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND COMBINE WITH THE S/W OVER THE
MT/ID-CANADA BORDER TO BRING A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAINFALL MAINLY
OVER THE NORTHEAST ZONES AND A NOTICEABLE INCREASE IN CLOUD COVER.
THE FRONT MOVES THROUGH SETX MONDAY NIGHT/TUESDAY MORNING USHERING
IN A REINFORCING SHOT OF DRY AIR AND A COOL NIGHT BUT THIS TO
WILL BE SHORT LIVED AS WEAK TROUGHING OVER THE NW AND A SEPARATE
SYSTEM IN THE SUBTROPICAL JET COMMENCES A LONG PERIOD OF ONSHORE
FLOW WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. EXTENDED GUIDANCE IN GOOD
AGREEMENT WITH RICH LL MOISTURE POOLING OVER THE SOUTHERN GULF
THAT WILL BE DRAWN NORTH THURSDAY AND FRIDAY INTO THE CWA. THE
REGION SHOULD BE WELL CAPPED BUT THE WARM PROFILE AND HUMIDITY
WILL LIKELY BRING A ROUND OF OUR FIRST OF THE SEASON 90+ HEAT
INDICES FRIDAY.
A FEW SHOWERS MIGHT BE POSSIBLE SATURDAY AND
SUNDAY NEXT WEEKEND BUT CHANCES LOOKING SLIM AS OF NOW GIVEN THE
STRENGTH OF THE CAP.
