The 00Z Euro and GFS ensemble members raise an eyebrow suggesting the next 48 to 72 hours could remain very wet across Eastern Texas/Western Louisiana.

Is the wetness pretty much done for the day? Looks like it's just about pushed out of the area....

Daytime heating and more outflow boundaries to our NW could develop additional convection later today as everything rotates SE around that pesky upper low.

how much rain has the western counties received? Has it been enough to help with their severe drought situation?

The drought update should come out in a day or so, ticka. I suspect we will see some improvement particularly across the Permian Basin and W Central Texas as they received 3-4 days of heavy storms. Meanwhile closer to home...

We received 3" of rain at my house from this morning's storm (south of Alvin). My yard looks like a lake, the trees are loving this! Total since Sunday 4". I hope we get more, but not looking forward to the mosquitoes

With the rain overnight, I have gotten right at 4.5" since this all started on Monday just south of Lake Conroe Dam. Hopefully all these heavy rains this time of year will keep that ridge from hell from setting up shop over our area for an extended period of time this summer.

I'm also on the band wagon in being in high hopes that we don't experience a "cockroach ridge" this summer that bars all meaningful rain from our area. Let's hope that there are no wildfires this summer.
I can report 4.29 inches since Monday (5/26/2014).
The sun just peaked out for a moment. Temperature has climbed to 71F.

Update from Jeff:

Excessive rainfall has pushed out of Harris County into the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Rainfall Amounts:

Last 48 hours:
Rainfall has averaged 6.0-8.5 inches across NW Harris County from Katy to Tomball with 8.64 inches recorded at Little Cypress Creek and Kluge.

This morning:
Rainfall has averaged 1.5-2.5 inches across much of Harris County with the heaviest rainfall occurring over SW Harris into southern Harris County or across the Brays Bayou and Clear Creek watersheds.

Channel Conditions:

Little Cypress Creek: overbanks at Becker Rd and within 3.0 ft of bankfull at Cypress Rosehill and Kluge Rd. Portions of Lake Cypress Ests downstream of Kluge Road are starting to experience high water.

Cypress Creek: creek is cresting downstream of SH 249 just under bankfull and rising slowly upstream of SH 249. Creek will likely go overbanks at Katy Hockley late today and remain overbanks. No homes should be threatened.

South Mayde Creek: creek is overbanks at Greenhouse, but falling

West Fork San Jacinto River: river is overbanks and forecast to rise to near 50.6ft around 600am Thursday. At these levels flooding of some streets in subdivisions downstream (east) of US 59 is likely. Residents may possible become surrounded or trapped by rising water this evening into early Thursday.

Bear Creek: creek is in banks and falling

Langham Creek: creek is in banks and falling

Brays Bayou: in banks and cresting

Buffalo Bayou: in banks and rising

Clear Creek: nearing bankfull at FM 2351 and FM 528 should crest below bankfull

Forecast:
Break in the rainfall currently is expected to last for at least the next few hours with possible re-development at some point this afternoon. Not overly confident in when or where additional storms may develop. Upper level low pressure system is forecast to remain over/near the area for the next 2-4 days so additional rounds of heavy rainfall appear likely.

House Flooding:
There have been no reports of house or structure flooding however water is high at several locations and some internal drainage system especially in western and northern Harris County are currently flowing at capacity resulting in locations of high water

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH EXTENDED UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR

* A PORTION OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING
COUNTIES...AUSTIN...BRAZORIA...BRAZOS...BURLESON...CHAMBERS...
COLORADO...FORT BEND...GALVESTON...GRIMES...HARRIS...HOUSTON...
JACKSON...LIBERTY...MADISON...MATAGORDA...MONTGOMERY...POLK...
SAN JACINTO...TRINITY...WALKER...WALLER...WASHINGTON AND
WHARTON.

* UNTIL 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING

* SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FROM THIS MORNING HAVE MOVED TO THE
IMMEDIATE COAST AND WEAKENED. AS TEMPERATURES RISE INTO THE
UPPER 70S AND LOWER 80S LATE THIS AFTERNOON EXPECT SCATTERED
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP. RAINFALL WILL PROBABLY BE
MORE SCATTERED IN NATURE AND NOT AS WIDESPREAD. STORMS SHOULD BE
QUICK MOVING AND CAPABLE OF DROPPING AMOUNTS OF ONE QUARTER TO
ONE HALF INCH. THIS EVENING THE POSSIBILITY EXISTS FOR SOME OF
THESE STORMS TO CLUSTER UP AND PRODUCE GREATER AMOUNTS BUT
CONFIDENCE IS LOWER OF THIS OCCURRING. ANY RAIN THAT FALLS
TODAY WILL BE FALLING ON WET GROUND AND RUNOFF WILL BE MORE
LIKELY AND COULD LEAD TO STREET FLOODING ALONG WITH DELAYING ANY
FALLS IN AREA BAYOUS AND RIVERS LEVELS. THE UPPER LEVEL LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM THAT HAS DRIVEN MUCH OF THE RAINFALL OF THE LAST
FEW DAYS WILL LIKELY BEGIN TO DRIFT OUT LOUISIANA AND BACK INTO
TEXAS FRIDAY AND MAY BRING MORE HEAVY RAINS TO THE REGION.

* FLASH FLOODING CAN EASILY OCCUR OVER URBANIZED AREAS WHERE
PONDING LEADING TO FLASH FLOODING IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR. IF
ON THE ROAD AND ENCOUNTERING WATER ACROSS THE ROADWAY OF
UNKNOWN DEPTH...TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN! LOW WATER CROSSINGS
AND OTHER LOW LYING AREAS WILL ALSO HAVE A HIGHER RISK OF
FLOODING.

The visible satellite imagery suggests that the cumulus field is becoming increasingly buoyant and instability continues to increase to our NW. Clouds have scattered out in NW Harris County and temperatures continue to rise as well as the PW's. The atmosphere appears to getting 'primed' for another round of storms as the day progresses. I would not be surprised to see the Flash Flood Watch extended even further as the U/L feature slowly drifts S and fills in. It is also noteworthy that additional moisture is streaming N from the Western Gulf as well as from the Pacific where Amanda continues to churn. If this mid/upper level feature drops into the NW Gulf as some of the guidance suggests, we may have additional issues to deal with concerning heavy rainfall.

I received .81" overnight. That gives me 5.19" starting Monday and 10.79" for the month of May.

Looking at satellite loops, I believe the ULL is starting to meander Southwest now. This could get interesting since the grounds here are saturated. The undeveloped parcels here in TW Town Center have standing water all over them, like a swamp.

I have a question Srain (or for any other pro on the board) - we are 3 days away from the offical start of hurricane season. If the low responsible for all of the current rains heads south into the NW Gulf, is it possible for it to develop into something tropical? How warm are those waters right now? Just curious - thanks!
