Got home from work yesterday afternoon and checked my rain gauge - 0.55". That seemed low. It's a RainWise 8" diameter wireless tipping bucket gauge placed about 20 feet from my bedroom window atop the fence. No trees nearby (not after Ike). Fortunately, I have another 4" diameter clear plastic gauge that holds up to 11" a few feet away with the same exposure. I could see water in that gauge almost half way up the outer cylinder to the top, indicating maybe 6".

Looking closer at the 8" gauge from the window (it was raining), I could see water droplets hitting the opening and bouncing up in the air. Strange, why would they do that? Unless... unless the small grate at the bottom of the funnel that filters debris was clogged. It was. The gauge itself holds about 3" of rain then it spills over the side if it's clogged.

I went outside when the rain slacked off and unclogged the 8" gauge then measured out the 4" gauge. Got approximately 6.5" yesterday in Westbury (Hillcroft/Willowbend).

6 inches is about right. Southwest side of Houston got 5 to 6 inches of rain yesterday.
