Today marks the first step in a journey of many, many steps back
towards normalcy in our area after the onslaught of Harvey. In the
east, some lingering rain from Harvey`s back edge remains this
afternoon. Otherwise, we have no rain, and the sun is beginning
to break through from west to east. A lack of rain is an
infinitesimal, but more than deserved prize for the large number
of dedicated first responders, dispatchers, and volunteers who
have put in so many hours of hard work under terrible conditions
to help the citizens of Southeast Texas.

This story was corrected on-air. False alarm. No, it wasn't KHOU.

As I suspected - (Anchor 1) and (Anchor 2) had never seen any of the footage before (I had been wondering where they were, but still), so they basically had an on-air freakout in front of anyone watching that particular channel.

This month has been extremely long.

Yes it has and certainly an August that will be remembered forever, particularly for Texas and portions of SW Louisiana. Our plan regarding this Topic is to change it to a Global Setting which will appear above the Main Weather Forum Page and be visible in both the Hurricane Central Section as well as the Main Weather Forum Page. This Topic will remain open and folks can post throughout the recovery and rebuilding Phase of the aftermath of Harvey. This Global Setting move will show up has an Announcement and that will be done on September 1st. Once again I personally want to thank EVERYONE for you help throughout this Historic Weather Event for our Local Region, our State and for our Nation. We know we helped inform our Neighbors well in advance and saved lives and assisted in getting everyone prepared in making their decisions for their Families, Friends, Extended Family, Neighbors and Co Workers. The Nation Weather Service/Houston/Galveston has expressed their Thank You to our efforts here as well as our TxWeatherBoard Facebook and Twitter feeds. The road ahead will be long, but we will bounce back better and stronger than ever before. Again my personal thanks to our Staff, Pro Mets NWS/NHC/WPC/Local/State/Federal Official and particularly Jeff Lindner. Jeff deserves a tremendous amount of credit for being a calm voice as the flood water rose and continues to being a calming voice as the Rivers and Reservoirs rise. Thursday Morning Update from Jeff:

Catastrophic flood event from hurricane Harvey slowly subsiding over portions of the area…although many watersheds remain well above major flood levels.

Trinity River:
Record flooding is in progress at Liberty and Moss Bluff with the river near crest at Liberty. Disastrous flooding is in progress

San Jacinto:
West Fork: Major flooding continues, but the river has crested and is falling
East Fork: Moderate flooding continues, but the river is falling
Mainstream major flooding is occurring, but the river is falling

Brazos River:
Record flooding is occurring at Richmond and major at Rosharon. River will be a very high levels into the weekend

San Bernard River:
Record flooding occurred at East Bernard and is in progress at Boling and likely at Sweeny

Colorado River:
Near record flooding is occurring near Wharton and moderate flooding is expected at Bay City

Addicks: engagement of the north end spillway continues, but will slowly subside as releases help to lower pool levels

Barker: pool is slowly falling due to releases

Buffalo Bayou:
Bayou is holding steady above major/record flood levels due to releases from Addicks and Barker. This will continue for an extended period of time.

Forecast:
Dry weather will continue for the next 2-3 days as the remains of Harvey move into the eastern US and high pressure builds back over the region. Tropical moisture will begin to return to the area around Monday and a chance of rainfall may begin to increase Tuesday into next week as the seabreeze front becomes active.

Additionally, some model guidance attempts to form an areas of surface low pressure in the southern Gulf of Mexico over the next several days. For now will keep any formation chances low, but keeping a very close watch as the area will be extremely sensitive to additional rainfall for a while
