So far, the coldest day this winter occurred in mid November when the high at Bush hit only 43. Today may turn out to be the coldest day of the winter, as far as the high temp.
Those azaleas are not always right. :)
Harold Taft used to say “Spring isn’t here until the mesquite trees bloom” but I haven’t seen a mesquite tree since my last trip to Austin. Used to be a field of them along the Hardy but they were cleared a few months ago.

Sleet returns near College Station. May be verga.

I don't think we've broken freezing yet...and we probably won't.

So, we may be at freezing or below for 36 hours.

...and near 80°F by the weekend.

Welcome to Texas! Hope you've had your flu shot!

Met my wife at home for lunch. She came in, shivering and says “It’s (effing) cold out there!! Is this the coldest day of the winter?” and I said “Well, yes, as a matter of fact it is!”

Litttle league baseball game tonight was cancelled due to the cold. I think that’s another first...

Unless this wind dies down, those covers aren’t gonna help much tonight.

But if the wind continues, won't it help keep the temps from plummeting?

Jasons - use bricks, rocks and other heavy items to weigh those covers down.

.AVIATION...
The weak ripple/wave that came across within the southwest mid-
level steering flow this morning and introduced light precipitation,
mainly sprinkles with some western ice pellet mix, has also assisted
in keeping all hubs at MVFR ceilings. Satellite showing the work of
lower level drier air infiltration over North Texas. This dry air
will work its way south and begin to thin decks to VFR category
through the late afternoon into early evening hours. Other than a
quick spit of light rain, the trend is for drying, lifting while
scattering out decks and a weaker north wind over the next 6 hours.
Few-sct lower clouds with a thin layer of cirrus tomorrow as VFR
prevails from tonight through Tuesday afternoon. 31

Lake Charles issues Freeze Warning tonight for Jefferson county. Also updated today forecast showing sleet to continue on and off as it has been doing. Have a feeling we all will see a lower low tonight than whats forecasted.

Depends on the dew point, wind speed, and cloud cover.

So daily record low maximum temperature record may tie this date in 2014. SE Texas experienced an Ice Storm on this date 5 years ago on March 4, 2014.

The final NWS number for me is 28. Will prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I think “amazing” is about the last word I’d use the descibe this awful, cold, gray, blustery weather.

Thank God it’s March and we can finally be done with this garbage soon.

This weather is why they make greenhouses! I've covered our new rose bushes yesterday, but they're going to be toast.

Hopefully will kill some insects.

A good quality greenhouse (that will pass our HOA requirements) will run into the tens of thousands of dollars to install. I love my plants but not that much. Plus, that yard space needs a pool and fire pit.

OK, time to bundle-up and tackle the yard. This cold stings. Ugh.

National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
612 PM CST Mon Mar 4 2019

.UPDATE...
12-14 hours of freezing or below across the north and 8-12 hours
of subfreezing for the southern areas in the freeze warning. Skies
should start to scatter out between 03-09z and after expect
favorable conditions - dewpoints in the 16-25 degree range
already and light north winds - for excellent radiational
cooling to take place.

It is official...College Station set a record low maximum
temperature today only warming up to 35! The previous record was
40 degrees in 2014. Crushed it.

Have the faucets in the house dripping. Better to be safe than sorry. Our outside faucets are covered. Not sure what will happen with the plants as we just had everything trimmed back 10 days ago.
