Although Alex is making landfall in Mexico, it appears that it will first hit a barrier peninsula and then cross over a bay area. The effect on Claudette was that it strengthened rapidly over the very warm, very shallow bay waters and created much stronger windforce and damage than was initially forecast.

Can anyone comment on this phenomenon? Like Dr. Frank?
