February 2021: Arctic Outbreak/Warmup Begins
What part of Angleton are you in? I'm just outside of town on the southside and after a quick 5 min sleet storm it's like walking on eggshells outside.Kingwood36 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 2:08 am Well yall enjoy I'm out...we haven't gotten anything down this way
I'm absolutely baffled right now. Just had either hail or really large chunks of sleet. Crazy!!

Question — is it normal for snow to accumulate on brick and rooftops but not on grass? Always thought grass was among first surfaces to be coated.
Sky lit up in blue as a transformer blew and power went out across the street from me. Highway 99 pitch black and all the stores along the feeder. Wind is howling through my doors and windows are just getting pelted with sleet. If I was in a coma and I was just waking up in my bed, I'd think it was August and a hurricane was moving through (without looking out the window of course). This event is going to produce a lot of future meteorologist. Allison and Ike is what did it for me.

Flakes mixing in near Lake Conroe. Just saw a huge flash and a loud clap of thunder!
It’s more like sleet out there. Not really snow. At least not here.
No, that means you’re seeing sleet. If it was snow, it would be uniformly covering the grassy surfaces. I think some people in here are thinking they’re seeing snow when they’re actually seeing extremely tiny sleet pellets. Also if you walk outside and can hear the precip hitting your jacket or other objects, then it’s not snow.txsnowmaker wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 2:19 am Question — is it normal for snow to accumulate on brick and rooftops but not on grass? At night the brick and roofs would have cooled faster than the grass. The layers of sleet and ice didn't hurt. All snow now.txsnowmaker wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 2:19 am Question — is it normal for snow to accumulate on brick and rooftops but not on grass? It's 19 degrees now. Mostly snow. Saw a flash of lightning. Watching the stuff moving-in. I thought MontgomeryCountyWx was staying-up all night.

Still just heavy sleet here in katy, im starting to think this actually will be a bust for me
Exactly. Snow is quiet when it falls. It’s extremely peaceful. This is just nothing but a sleet storm.gent500 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 2:30 amNo, that means you’re seeing sleet. Wall of snow is past Conroe and to North Cleveland, filling in well.
Bright returns overhead = more sleet. Wish it would change to all snow already.
