Any thoughts or indications whether or not there may be any other big bad arctic air coming down after this week?

Finally at 36 in Beaumont. Im exhausted. Haven’t been back to work since Friday. Things should be melting now. Thank goodness no pipe issues at my home but plenty of neighbors were affected unfortunately. Went and assisted with two neighbors. Prayers for all that had to endure worse than me. This is usually when I say, yay that was fun, exciting and ready for the next one! .....ummmm no. Im done. Exhausted checking the house and making preventative measures. Been a lot of sleepless night. Goodnight! God bless! And on to SPRING!

Wednesday afternoon weather briefing from Jeff:

Upper level storm system responsible for the freezing rain over portions of SE TX this morning is exiting to the east

Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for tonight into Thursday for some additional light precipitation

Hard Freeze Watch has been issued for Thursday night and Friday morning

Upper level disturbance responsible for the overnight and morning rain and freezing rain over the area is moving off to the NE with rain ending. Surface temperatures have warmed into the mid 30’s over many areas ending the freezing rain and resulting in a slow melting of accumulations of ice. Temperatures may rise a few additional degrees today, before falling below freezing again this evening north of I-10. Ice will be slow to melt this afternoon with temperatures only in the mid to upper 30’s and lack of solar insolation.

Tonight an upper level disturbance along and ahead of an arctic frontal boundary may result in a band of light sleet and snow that spreads across the area from WNW to ESE. It is unclear what areas could be impacted by this feature, but the general model agreement is that precipitation and amounts will be light. With that said, and with low temperatures below freezing, a few additional icy bridges and overpasses will be possible. Temperatures will rise into the mid and upper 30’s again Thursday afternoon as skies clear.

Friday Morning:

With clear skies and light winds, a hard freeze is increasing likely over the area with temperatures falling into the upper 10’s north of HWY 105 and low to mid 20’s across the rest of the area. Temperatures are not expected to be as cold as early this week, nor the extreme cold last as long which should mitigate additional damage to infrastructure. However, pipes should be protected as temperatures generally below 25 degrees can cause concerns for pipes to break.

Much warmer conditions can be expected this weekend as this historic arctic outbreak modifies and the arctic high pressure shifts to the east allowing onshore flow of warmer air off the Gulf of Mexico.

Chance of any of this slop re-freezing on roadways this evening anywhere in our area, or is that mostly off to our north?

I’d say pretty high chance. Temp has actually dropped a degree to 35 at my house the last hour or so. It will get down below freezing tonight.

Maybe some snow tomorrow morning....? This is the trowal i mentioned last weekend. And models this evening seem to be getting a little more aggressive as they aren't drying out the disturbance as it moves over southeast Texas as much as they ware earlier.Could see a quick dusting to maybe an inch, and the nice thing is that if we see snow tomorrow it will be in the daylight this time lol.

House is at 58 when I stopped by to check on things. Staying at parents who have power for now. When will this stop? This is ridiculous. Millions without power and/or water. Centerpoint won’t give any update. And more on the way?!

Hi Christina - I found this on their home page - there is a 'latest news' section.' I read it at about 6PM and was hoping the power would be back up soon. It came on about 30 minutes ago here!

https://info.centerpointenergy.com/pdf/ ... -FINAL.pdf
Houston – Feb. 17, 2021 – The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has notified
CenterPoint Energy of additional power generation capacity. As more power generation is
available, the company is prepared to re-energize portions of the electric system that have been
without power. During the service restoration process, CenterPoint Energy urges customers who
have electric and/or natural gas service to immediately conserve electricity and natural gas over
the next six hours, until midnight.

“This is an unprecedented situation for our communities in that the demand for electric and
natural gas reached record levels simultaneously,” said Kenny Mercado, CenterPoint Energy’s
Executive Vice President, Electric Utility. “We are ready to restore service to our customers.
Introducing this demand too rapidly could result in additional service interruptions and safety
risks for both electric and natural gas customers.”

“Let’s come together and help our neighbors who have been without power for an extended
period of time,” said Scott Doyle, CenterPoint Energy’s Executive Vice President, Natural Gas
Distribution. “This in an immediate call to action for our customers.”

I am glad you made it through OK. You need a much-deserved break!

I was going to post something very similar but you nailed it, man. After a week now of preparations, helping neighbors, constantly having to check certain things, shutting the water off and on...I am just completely and totally exhausted. My god the snow, ice or whatever and a few hours of fun and weather geekiness just isn't worth it. Not here, anyway. I loved the snow up in Lubbock. That was different. I'd much rather be up in Angel Fire or Taos where you can enjoy the snow and not have to be worried about power outages and busted pipes. Especially for someone with two kids, it's. just. exhausting, both mentally and physically. It's hard to totally cut loose and have fun in the snow when you are worried if at any moment the heat is getting shut off, or if your next door neighbor's pipes are going to hold because they didn't do much. Roughly half the people I know in Imperial Oaks had busted pipes, even with wrapped pipes and dripping faucets. Stuff happens - like that one pipe going along the garage out to a faucet.

I wouldn't wish this exhausting hell on anyone. Anyway, rant over. :)

One great "forever" moment out of this though -- having my youngest destroy all of us at Yahtzee earlier today. That was priceless.

Good luck to those of you still getting through this without power or with water issues. I wish I could just make it all 'normal' again for everyone.

No broken pipes for us, but snow and ice were evidently blown into the attic. Started to melt when the sun came out yesterday and drip into the living room. Fortunately, I was able to find the source and fish out ice, snow and blown insulated. Looks like a bit of paint will take care of the stains.

Yeah, natural gas plants were being repaired and prepped for summer. They forgot to tune in here at Wx Infinity and get the heads up to bring the plants online early. ;)
