Waiting still on it too. I hope my eyes are deceiving me about the line looking more ragged now. Maybe it will reintensify.

Man😳😳 that Gulf Stream Loop though, with a death ridge in place most of next week, that will only help to accelerate GOM warming

Nice little outflow just ahead of the storm seems to be stirring things up. Nice little blow up just SW of Pearland.

So much for that. Could literally see the storm and it just evaporated around us. At least another one reformed behind it.

Look out Beaumont though!

Digital gauge shows 0.65” but it’s usually low.
I forgot to empty the regular rain cylinder so I don’t know the exact amount, probably close to 0.75”

So thankful to get this rain before the ridge sets up. Hopefully it’s a temporary thing.

The next week and a half looks more like mid August than early May. Thankful for the rain today and hope the dry pattern coming up doesn’t last too long.

Thursday looks to be the hottest day coming up next week. After that, we should head towards more seasonable temperatures. Rainfall is questionable, but I suspect we will have another chance within the next 2 weeks.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
606 AM CDT Fri May 6 2022

.AVIATION [12Z TAF Issuance]...

Patchy fog began developing around midnight near the northern
three terminals (CXO/UTS/CLL). CLL and CXO have been the most
impacted so far with periods of 1/4SM visibilities. Expect this
to continue through 14Z/15Z before clearing out. Winds are
starting out light and variable this morning and will gradually
become southeasterly around 7-10 knots by the afternoon as surface
high pressure moves eastward. Another round of patchy fog is
possible tonight and looks to extend further south than what
we`re experiencing this morning. At the very least, most sites
will see MVFR ceilings develop overnight with the potential to
drop to IFR should any patchy fog develop over the airports.

.PREV DISCUSSION /Issued 324 AM CDT Fri May 6 2022/...

.SHORT TERM [Through Saturday Night]...

Now that the line of thunderstorms has pushed offshore, our
attention can turn to the developing fog. With winds becoming light
and skies clearing out up north, dew point depressions have become
increasingly low especially in the Brazos Valley. With wet surfaces
from the earlier rainfall, patchy to areas of fog began developing
around midnight. The fog will persist and may gradually spread
further south through the early morning hours as cloud cover clears
out and dew point depressions fall. A Dense Fog Advisory is
currently in effect for the northern half of Southeast Texas through
9am this morning. Expect the fog to clear out by the mid-morning
hours leading into sunny skies that`ll take you through the rest of
your Friday.

The cold front that pushed last night`s storms through the area has
left an abundance of dry air in its wake. Satellite derived PW
values as of 3am CDT range from 0.5"-0.8" north of Harris County,
which is below the 25th percentile (0.93") and below the 10th
percentile in the Brazos Valley/Piney Woods (0.73"). The drier air
plays a factor in both this morning`s temperatures (Thursday night`s
lows) and today`s high temperatures. Dry air cools efficiently and
combined with light winds and clear skies (outside of the fog) we`ll
see temperatures ranging from the low 60s north of Harris County,
upper 60s in the Houston metro area, and low 70s along the coast.
Not quite enough for a jacket, but enough to notice that it actually
feels pleasant to be outside for once! Not for long though...850mb
flow aloft gradually transitions from westerly to southwesterly
throughout the day with 850mb temperatures ranging from 18-21
degrees Celsius. This supports temperatures topping out in the low
to mid 90s this afternoon.

Surface high pressure scoots out to the east late today leading to
the return of onshore flow and increasing humidity. Warm and muggy
nights are back in action tonight with low temperatures in the low
to mid 70s. Northeastern locations will be able to squeeze out
another night in the 60s. Additionally, an upper-level ridge builds
in overnight and will prevail throughout the weekend and into next
week. Long story short...it`s gettin` hot in here! Temperatures on
Saturday will top out in the mid to upper 90s, and with the
increasing humidity, we`ll have to keep an eye on heat index values
over the weekend. Heat index values will range from 102-107 degrees
on Saturday, so heat safety should be a top priority. Although this
is technically below our threshold for a Heat Advisory, there is a
lot of thought going into issuing one given the potential impacts of
an early season stretch of hotter than normal temperatures.

Batiste

&&

.LONG TERM [Sunday Through Friday]...

Heat will continue to be the main story to close out the weekend and
for all of next week. Aloft, mid/upper level ridging will persist
across the area while at the surface weak high pressure will edge
westward into the western Gulf. These features will help to keep
our area free from any rain with a general pattern of partly to
maybe mostly cloudy nights and mostly sunny days. For almost every
day, inland high temperatures (possible near record values) will
be around a low to mid 90s range for areas closer to the coast and
a mid to upper 90s range for areas further inland. Low temperatures
will only fall into the low to mid 70s. At the coast, highs in the
mid to upper 80s and lows in the upper 70s can be expected. Heat
index values might approach Heat Advisory levels through the first
half of the week. Whether or not there is an advisory in effect,
heat safety should continue to be a top priority.

It's a drier pattern for sure, but I don't have much confidence in forecasts beyond 5 days. 12z Euro looks better for us after next Friday. Looks like possible convective showers developing next Saturday. Euro shows a ULL moving from the Rockies into western Texas at the end of the run. The 0z GFS last night showed this too. Regardless, temperatures should start to return to normal climatology by next Saturday. Not sure exactly what the CPC is seeing since the ridge flattens out.

They’re often wrong so we’ll see how it plays out. I’m just waiting for the day a thunderstorm just parks itself over my house and gives me 5” lol the crops out my way are really suffering. Corn looks terrible. It’s already starting to wither. Farmers better start irrigating. A lot already have and it still isn’t totally helping out very much.
