Statistically, Houston sees >1 inches of snow about on average every 8 (8.2 to be exact) years going back to 1895. So, the probability of seeing two >1 inch snowfall in one winter is on average every 64 years, three >1 inch snowfall in one winter is on average every 512 years. The only winter where there one or more >1 inches of snow was in 1973, where three >1 inches of snow fell. This going back to 1895 to 2010.

Snow
Snowfall=Every 3 years
>1" Snowfall=Every 8 years
2 >1" Snowfall=Every 64 years
3 >1" Snowfall=Every 512 years
4 >1" Snowfall=Every 4,096 years

To put this statistic in perspective, a tropical cyclone (tropical storm and hurricane) hits the Upper Texas Coast every (1.9) year. Hurricanes come every 3.6 years, while major hurricanes come every 10.8 years. This going back to 1870 to 2010.

Probability For Landfall on Upper Texas Coast
2 Tropical Cyclones=Every 3.6 years
2 Hurricanes=Every 13 years
2 Major Hurricanes=Every 117 years

3 Tropical Cyclones=Every 6.9 years
3 Hurricanes=Every 46.7 years
3 Major Hurricanes=Every 1,260 years

4 Tropical Cyclones=Every 13 years
4 Hurricanes=Every 168 years
4 Major Hurricanes=Every 13,605 years

Houston has a better chance of getting hit by a tropical cyclone than snow. Upper Texas Coast has never recorded two major hurricanes making landfall, which would happen every 117 years. A February 1895 type snowfall in Houston probably happens every 200 to 400 years.

After this round of moisture moves through which it looks to be fairly soon is there more expected to come this way? It seems the forecast is for precip most of the night?? I read somewhere that there is another low yet to come overnight. Is this the case?

There is another low in west Texas, but with the worked over atmosphere and dry air that is expected to come through, I doubt that it will enhance the atmosphere anymore and produce minimal if any precipitation. As Wxman always posts, the soundings show the moisture getting out of here pretty fast.

Both Conroe and Hunstville are reporting some light snow or flurries at this hour.

If we are to see any flurries today, it will be now.

If you are in the path of the precipiation shown on radar, it is coming down as snow!

Man, this is awesome. Seeing snow twice in one season down here! I've never seen that before...

I didn't want to wake everyone up by turning off the alarm and opening up the door to walk outside, so I tried to take a video of the streetlight from the window. I think you can see the flakes flying... I'll upload the video in a bit.

Attn David Paul. There is no rain. It is all snow. It is extremely light and the definition of a flurry, but the precip has changed to all snow. What few flakes there are, they are very big!

And just as quickly as it began, it has now ended. Oh well. I was satisfied. :P

Even if it is only for 15 minutes, there is just that very cool feeling of seeing snow falling around here...
Awesome winter.

Nice!

Man, I just knew we'd see a quick burst of snow as the main shield of precip shifted off to the east. Heights and thicknesses crashed hard as that coastal low pushed off to the east.

The column is cooling quickly, and you still have that area of light precip off to the west to move through. I think you'll see some flurries before all is said and done.

I hope you are right. Of course, according to "accuweather" yesterday, they said around 9:00am this morning for a rain/snow mix.......we shall see......

Like Mr T stated, poof and it is gone. I do wonder if this is a harbinger of things to come. I think February will be full of surprises. Wxman57 and Txagwxman have been hinting at such.

The next 10 days are looking very dry and I don't see anything coming that raises an eyebrow as far are freezing temps either. That would put us near the ens of Febuary. Time is running out for any "fun" weather.

There are the snow flurries I witnessed this morning around 6 am. The first part of this video is pretty blurry, but at 30 seconds is a much clearer view. If you look closely, you can see some snow sticking to the light pole.

This is actually the first time I've ever uploaded a camera video to Youtube. I actually have a lot of weather videos I should upload; I've just been pretty lazy. I guess right now is a good enough time to start than never...

I'm sure there is some dude living in Canada laughing at my pathetic excitement of seeing a few flurries. To him I say this: Deal with it.

Looked out the window at 7AM and all I saw was RAIN. No snow, sleet, just rain. Another cold rain event in the books.
