I read about Hurricane Gladys (1955), which made landfall around Tampico. It dumped heavy rain in South Texas and around Corpus Christi. As it was making landfall, a circulation on the eastern part of Gladys made landfall south of Baffin Bay on September 7, 1955. It was dubbed by locals as Glasscock, named after a nearby oil rig. It produced winds of 83 mph and 4.5 feet tide. I have wondered if it was a separate system, since Gladys was inland that time. The NWS does not recognize "Glasscock". It is possible that Glasscock was indeed a separate hurricane since it dumped heavy rain, had strong winds, and high tides on South Texas. It would be nice to have satellites and radar from that time and see what it was exactly.
